BaseCamp 3.2.2 has been released, it is available for download at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435.

Currently there is a problem with the Auto-Update, so please use the download link for now.

3.2.2 is a Maintenance Release, that means it is mostly bug-fixes, not new features.

This is a list of changes:

  • Fixed an issue with migrating waypoints with thumbnails from previous versions of BaseCamp to 3.2.1. This issue could have corrupted the database.
  • Fixed an issue with tracks that had been duplicated becoming corrupted.
  • Added a prompt to notify the user when data loss might have occurred.
  • Added a 'restore from previous version' menu item.
  • Added support for exporting of fitness data (heart rate and cadence) in tracks.
  • Changed to attempt to fix the paths in Garmin Custom Maps (KML ground overlay) files at start-up without notifying the user that there were problems with the file.
  • Changed the message displayed at start-up when the current video mode/card doesn't support 3D.
  • Improved initial download size estimates for some BirdsEye products.
  • Fixed some issues with undo/redo.
  • Fixed several issues related to application shutdown.
  • Fixed an issue with not recognizing Garmin mode USB device (such as the GPSMap 60) arrival and removal.
  • Fixed several issues related to aborting transfers to Garmin mode USB devices.
  • Fixed some issues related to ejecting mass storage devices.
  • Fixed some issues with changing folder selection while using the BirdsEye wizard.
  • Fixed an issue with reading geotagged photos from many smartphones.

    BC 3.2.2
    3. Unexpected: there were no duplicates listed in My Collection. There was only one of everything showing ("All Data" filter selected. All the other filters are still greyed out and inaccessable.)

QUESTION: Where did the additional copy of everything go when I imported the GDB file? E.g. why isn't there a complete set of duplicate names in My Collection? Did the objects in the imported GDB file not get imported ... just the names?

EDIT: Just for the record, My Collection is not anything significant. I just imported a couple of GDB files from Mapsource that contain a bunch of waypoints and tracks and a couple of routes, just so I would have something to mess with.

    ...ken...

I can reproduce this, and I agree this isn't the behavior I would have expected either. What is happening here (I believe, I can't look at the code right now) is that the import gdb file gets put into a database, and then we merge the internal database with the import database and make sure the resulting items are in the new list. Which might not be what we should be doing.

The filters currently only work in the data view (Ctrl-Tab). We should not be showing the filter options while in map view, that will have to be fixed. Or maybe we will make filters work in the map view as well.

    I don't understand.

I had the cursor in the library. I specifically clicked on My Collection to be sure that the Data pane had the focus.

Are you messing with my head with some sort of funky use of terminology?

Are you perhaps using "Data View" to mean something different than "Data Pane"?

    If so, what's the point?

Regardless, any time the Data Pane has the focus - specifically, any time something in the data pane is selected, regardless of which location it occupies on the screen (big/small, left/right) - I should be able to use the filters.

Anything else is just silly. (Sorry, but it had to be said. )

This wasn't an issue in 3.1.3 so somehow it got broken in 3.2.x.

Based on your explanation of how the library works, I was expecting all the items to show up as duplicate names in My Collection with some sort of identifier to distinguish them. Like, for instance, a "-1" appended to the object name and those same unique names to be in the "My Collection copy" list.

That is, I would have expected the merge process to force any duplicate names to be made unique, the uniquely named objects added to My Collection and the resulting unique names to be used in the subsequent list created by the import process.

Any objects that already have unique names would, of course, just be merged into My Collection and have their unmodified names added to the new list.

........ But you already knew that. :D

On a different note, whenever you notice something weird with the Dutch translation and you have a few minutes, please let me know (via PM).

Thanks, I will collect them (ask help on a Dutch forum), and I send you next week the found translation mismatches.

Thank you! That will be most helpful. We have a lot of Dutch users, so we'd like to pay special attention to that translation. I believe Dutch is the third most used language for BaseCamp after English and German, which is quite remarkable considering that there are comparatively few Dutch speakers.

This place is fine. I'll have a look at this on Monday.

Directions in Route Properties needs details.

MapSource has a tab in Route Properties for Directions that consists of columns: Directions/Name, Distance, Leg Length, Leg Time, Total Time, Course, Position and Elevation. This data can be highlighted with the mouse or ctrl-A and ctrl-C copied to other programs such as Excel or Outlook. This is very useful for planning route pitstops and seems to be missing in BaseCamp. The BC alternative of print preview does not allow copy of the data and is not column oriented. Playback and Playback Info also give a limited view of this information.

Or maybe we will make filters work in the map view as well.

Please, please, please do! This would be fantastic! My use case would be as follows:

There is an area of about 400 square miles where we ride dirtbikes and quads. The Garmin topo's of this area are marginal. The Cdn Govt topos maid into Gramin custom maps are quite good - but still show trails that no longer exist and also missing many other trails.

I ride and tracklog all the trails, while simultaneously marking waypoints of interest (camping spots, fishing spots, swimming spots, trail junctions, etc.)

When all this data (base vector map, custom map topo, waypoints, tracks, and routes) is overlaid in Basecamp it can get very busy. Sometimes I just want to review the tracks, sometimes just the waypoints, sometimes with or without the custom map overlay.

At present, in order to declutter the screen and view only the elements I am presently interested in, I must create several lists in My Collection as follows:

    Riding area - all
    Riding area - tracks only
Riding area - tracks on topo
    Riding area - waypoints only
Riding area - waypoints on topo
    Riding area - routes only
Riding area - routes on topo
Riding area - tracks and waypoints
Riding area - tracks and waypoints on topo
    and so on...

It would be hugely convenient to be able to apply filters (especially stacked filters) to the data shown on the map. This would also really decrease the number of lists in the My Collection master list.

To be fully awesome, it would be great if waypoints could be filtered for display on the map by symbol! :D

A re-work of the route-properties dialog that should give you the options you are mentioning is currently being worked on, so this should come out in a future feature release.
