Have been using MapSource for a long time and just recently downloaded and played around with BaseCamp. Overall, I like it a lot. I have a few suggestions, some of which are a carry-over from MapSource.
(1) I don’t care if the drawn route is thick or thin, but what does annoy me is the highlighted route stomping over the top of a highway number… making it unreadable. This happens in MapSource also. So my suggestion would be to allow user adjustment of route thickness and transparency settings.
(2) For those with multiple drives, it is convenient to split the program from the data. While I understand the push these days is to make things such that you don’t even know where the data is (can you say iPad?), others prefer to have that control. Perhaps a setting allowing alternate data file location.
(3) While I appreciate the overview map and map controls as a means of moving around the map, I always thought it would be simple to allow the spacebar to “toggle” between the pointer and the hand tool. If you are working with the pointer, and press the spacebar, you quickly flip to the hand tool to give the screen a push. You let go of the spacebar, and you are put back to the pointer. It also provides additional real-estate on the screen for the actual map. I’m not inventing this, clearly, as I have seen other programs use this mechanism.
I appreciate the change in concept between MapSource and BaseCamp regarding data storage and display. Good concept.
Thanks!
