Will someone at Garmin please post a link to 3.1.3?

Every time I start up 3.2.1 now it comes up with the "Warning: Data could be lost" and it destroys everything in my catalog if I tell it to fix it (my catalog file is reduced to 1k in size). This was not an issue with 3.1.3.

So here's the thing--I'm an end user, not a beta tester. 3.2.1 is not a working product, at least for me. I just want the access to the last working version. Will someone at Garmin please post a link to 3.1.3 so I can get back to using my GPS?

Thank you very much.

Thanks Stuart, but unfortunately that link ended up installing 3.2.1. I know it's labeled as 3.1.3, and in fact the install information in Control Panel even lists it as 3.1.3, but it's 3.2.1 on the machine.

    Did you un-install 3.2.1 first?

I do not think Garmin has a hosted copy of 3.1.3. Usually Perry has the correct installers.

Stuart, but unfortunately that link ended up installing 3.2.1.

Although I have nothing to do with the site or uploading of the Bascamp 3.1.3 package I posted I'm confident it is correct.

Assuming you completely uninstalled 3.2.1 before reinstalling 3.1.3 I suspect that

    1) The version number contained within the installer itself is wrong--that is Windows sees the two as equivalent (despite any messages to the contrary) and used a cached version of the 3.2.1 installer. I have personally had this kind of issue before (but not with Garmin stuff) and had to manually correct things but locating the cached installer and deleting it.

    2) Your Microsoft Windows installation has other issues resulting in the behavior in 1).

One way to test the theory in 1) is to try the whole install/uninstall process in a (virtual) machine. If it works there's something with your particular machine. If not the Garmin installer developer(s) made an error.

Since I have a number of "blank" Virtual Machines on hand for different versions of Windows I'll give this a try and post my results.

I had no issue uninstalling 3.2.1 and reinstalling 3.1.3. Here's my process.

    1) Using a WinXP SP3 Virtual Machine with all the latest patches (via Windows Update) and no other 3rd party software installed

    2) I installed BaseCamp 3.1.3 using the binary downloaded via the URL previously posted. When run the program reported as v3.1.3. I created a single waypoint in "My Collection" to ensure that a database was created.

    3) I updated to BaseCamp 3.2.1 using the package I'd downloaded from Garmin and saved. When run BaseCamp reported its version as 3.2.1 and the previously created waypoint was present.

    4) Use the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel I uninstalled BaseCamp 3.2.1.

    5) Using the package from 1) I reinstalled BaseCamp 3.1.3. When started BaseCamp reported as 3.1.3.

In short I see nothing wrong with reinstalling 3.1.3 when 3.2.1 is uninstalled first.

Yep, got it. The problem was that the uninstaller for 3.2.1 didn't uninstall anything. When I looked at program files\garmin\basecamp after uninstalling, everything was still there. Once I manually combed the system for any traces of the app and deleted everything I could find, the installer worked fine and 3.1.3 is back up.

Thanks very much for the thorough investigation.
