A beta version of BaseCamp 3.2 is available (link below). Please read the following:

Warning

This is beta software, or an early peak at an incomplete product. We value your input, so we are providing this to you so that you can send us your comments and ideas. We have tested this beta version extensively, but that doesn't mean that there won't be bugs. Use at your own risk.

Notes

  • Please backup your existing data from BC 3.1 before running the beta.
  • The beta build requires you to allow Garmin to collect statistics on how you use BaseCamp to help us improve the application. This will be optional for the release of BaseCamp 3.2, but it is a required condition for using the beta.

Changes

Changes listed below are above and beyond the previous beta

  • Improved routing
  • BirdsEye downloads should now work
  • Added dragging photos onto the map views
  • Added dragging files into My Collection and the user data list
  • Added activity profile selection dialog at startup, improved migration of existing route settings and routes
  • Added better preserving app state when restarting (selected tool, selected folder, selected view modes, etc)
  • Added support for restoring backups from different computers
  • Changed drawing style of routes and tracks to use thinner lines
  • Fixed issue with adding and removing links on various property tabs
  • Various improvements to the draw order slider for imagery
  • Improved find address near center of screen
  • Removed filtered routes
  • Removed the "Route style" group box from the route options since it doesn't make sense to have multiple "Direct" route profiles.

    0. Asymetric lines still broken see https://forums.garmin.com/showpost.php?p=82540&postcount=2

    1. **** If one sets a default route color, then why is it not used for new routes, this stupid behaviour has plagued me since a long time. I cannot make use of pink, I like light grey more. But setting it as default just makes it top of the list of choosable colors, not default color.

    2. **** The route properties is poor in comparison to Mapsource. (Still missing Distance and not only showing stupid leg distance and time (not only leg time). This is really a nogo. Bring in the Mapsource directions tabular style (maybe add very small arrows to it, but the route properties page in Basecamp is useless for routes with over 30 turns).

    3. **** Autorouting over large distances is still better in Mapsource. Haven't spend much time with it yet however. Much improved over 3.2.0.1 and faster time vs shorter distance seems to be working again. Mapsource 6.16.3 is however ahead in route quality (tested with several maps).

    4. ****Thinner routes don't help. The routes have to be transparent on the inside, so you can see the underlying roads. Everything else is only useful for motorcar autorouting going along highways. Or else move them X pixels asymetric from the road, so one can see the road...

4a. **** The map drawing speed is certainly great. It's much faster than Mapsource 6.16. Especially when panning via arrow keys. That is really nice.

4b. **** It would be great if there was a possibility for 1-2 custom profiles with custom names. That way one could use for example bicycle faster route and bicycle shorter distance without breaking other profiles to use it. Also easier to remember if it were done that way.

Still annoying, no change since 3.2.0.1:

    5. Converting routes to tracks is great. But why is there no option to create a real route for autorouting (not direct route) from a track?

    6. For maps that have no DEM, but contourlines, it would be great to also have an altitude profile for tracks created in Basecamp (use real altitude profile if track is from GPS) like the altitude profile that is shown for filtered routes.

    7. The additional statistics on the altitude profile are great. Except the last one. "Grade" between start and finish is not really something needed. Average grade would be a more useful measure. Also average incline of the way when clicking into the profile were great (so on a steep ascent you could click bottom and top point, and get the averaged incline for the ascent). Even better would be two measures. Average incline on uphill, and average incline on downhill sections.

I downloaded the 3.2.0.1 Beta and installed it.
Went smoothly. When I started the Beta it came right up.
I didn't immediately notice that there were little progress bars on my maps.
I assume the new release is migrating those maps.
Anyway, I might suggest a little pop-up window that would appear for migrating users to let them know that this migration process is going to run and may take a few minutes to complete. It did take a while for mine to finish. 10 minutes?

    1. I like the thinner line for a Track. The Track Points show up nicely for editing.
    2. I ALWAYS like my Track at the bottom of the pane under Library, which was default a few versions ago. When exiting BC, it would be nice if my selection stuck, so next time I open BC, I don't have to reselect the Sort. If there is a registry key which needs changing, please point me to the correct one.
    3. I should have suggested this many moons ago--Make a City name larger than the other text--like the street names, lake names, etc. Or make them Bold. Even zoomed down to show every street name in a small town, the city/town name does not stand out. The Waypoint names are bigger than the other text, so they stands out.

    Thanks for nice improvements,
    Ron

    BaseCamp 3.2.0.2 Beta

    - Many thanks for the thinner lines for tracks and routes too.
I asked for it since the birth of BaseCamp.
For that reason I am using the older MapSource version 6.15.7, so there is also work to do for the MapSource team.

    - Another point, where I was asking for several times:
The tool for adding tracks together should be made in the same simple way as it is done in MapSource with the tracktool.
Try it out in MapSource and you will understand, what I mean. ;)
