How do I cancel a 'find' in BaseCamp?

I have BC 3.1.3 on XP with SP3.
I'm trying to do a 'Find Address Near Center of Selection'.
Is there a way to 'cancel' the find operation?
I've tried closing the find window by clicking the 'X'. That closes the window.
But if I try to do another Find it never opens the find window again.
I have to exit and restart BC.

Thanks for any help or advice!

I downloaded the Beta of BC.
Tried cancelling a search there by clicking the 'X' in the search window.
It worked fine. I could start a new search with no problems.

The Beta also solved a couple of other problems I was having with Find.
I was having trouble finding addresses.
And I was having trouble making a Selection.
Both seem to work fine in Beta.

    Thanks!

I'm glad that the beta works better for you.

In general, the intent is that you shouldn't ever need to cancel a find. If you change your mind and want to restart the search you can just change any input criteria and it will restart the search automatically.

If you are trying to cancel because you don't need the search any longer, we don't handle that as well. Regardless, closing the results panel shouldn't require you to restart the app to see results again.

    OK, I understand.
But now that I have downloaded the 3.2.0.2 Beta I'm having trouble again.
Or maybe I just don't understand how to use the function properly.
The previous Beta seemed to work like I expected it to perform.

First thing - I'm assuming that when I have a map up I can use the 'Select'
tool off the toolbar to mark off an area. Then when I do a Find I assume the search is done just in that area. Am I close on those assumptions? When I used the Select tool on the previous Beta it would mark off a rectangle for me. But with 3.2.0.2 I can drawn the rectangle and the area is highlighted. But as soon as I release the mouse the rectangle disappears. That is what was happening in the production version. I'm using 'Find Address near Center of Selection containing 841 e banner ave' .
I have the TOPO 24K map selected in the drop down box.
The Help says I am supposed to highlight that map in the Library/Devices box. I've tried that as well as highlighting other items. No luck.

Where am I going off base on this? Thanks for any help!

Well, I restarted my system and BaseCamp a few times.
I was able to successfully use Select to mark off an area. Then Find within that Selection. That worked fine. But then I moved to a different area of the map and tried to Select a new area. Again, the rectangle would get drawn. But as soon as I released the mouse button the area would disappear. I wonder if there is a way to 'clear' a Selection. Maybe that's what I need to do. I'm puzzled. Thanks for any help.

Actually, cancelling a search is one of the first shortcomings I noticed when I started using the software. The reason is simple--BaseCamp usually hits what I'm searching for within a few seconds, but my hard drive will continue to thrash and the search window will continue to fill up with unneeded results until BaseCamp has finished searching the entire map set. Sure, you can click the X to close the results, but then the result I was looking for vanishes too.

Cancelling a search really does have merit.
