BirdsEye Imagery more than 7 years old??

I didn't know which forum to post this in so I picked Windows BaseCamp, hopefully it'll be seen here.

I recently subscribed to BirdsEye and have downloaded several images and put them to my Oregon 550. However, upon closer inspection of the images, I find that some are more than 7 years old.

For instance, there is a housing development close to us that was completely built out and finished by the end of 2004. However, when you look at the area in BaseCamp via BirdsEye, there are only one or two houses showing on the entire block and the rest appear as empty lots.

For an example, look at this address in BirdsEye and then in Google Maps:
8400 turtle rock loop college station tx

That entire block appears correct and up-to-date in Google Maps. In Basecamp however, only the house on the southwest corner (at Spring Creek and Appomattox) is there.

Are these images really this old? How often do they update them? A few months, even a year I could understand but this makes me question the accuracy of all of the images.

Garmin really depends on the cartography vendor. Check Google and see if they have better aerials for that area. If so, make a custommap for that. In general, the aerials are pretty good though.

Yes, Google Maps has a much more recent image, within the last 6 months from the cars I can see in the driveways. Google Earth as well.

How do I make a custom map using Google Maps. I've done it in Google Earth with an overlay but never directly from GM.

    Thanks,
    Larry

It seems I can download only birdseye images in the standard detaillevel, even whem I have highest selected.
A birdseye selection of 200MB leaves me with a .jnx file of 3MB.
A week ago it was 153 MB for the same selection.
I used Basecamp 3.1.3 and the newest beta, with the same results.

In a couple of days, my subscription ends, if it stay's this way I don't take a new one.
It looks very nice, these arial pictures on my gps, but 25 $ (?) for this is way to much.

The imagery is coming from Digital Globe or other providers so Garmin doesn't have much say in the image dates. I've seen places where the BirdsEye is a lot more current than Google Earth/maps

Sorry, but thats no excuse. The customer is purchasing from Garmin, not from Digital Globe or any other company. And if the data and quality of the images in BirdsEye is poor, its a Garmin issue.

Same problem 200mb birdseye file is only 4mb

Worked fine for over a year then suddenly I select an area at highest resolution, it says it will be 232 mb (15,000 images) but then is only 4 mb (240 images).
I got to the second level of tech support, they duplicated the problem on their machine using my account. They kicked it up to the 3rd level and will get back to me hopefully tomorrow. As a side thing during their trying to figure it out they copied my JnxFile directory then deleted it, now when I copied it back my Birdseye files don't show up in Basecamp. I have 48 Gb of files, I hope they can tell me how to get them to show up again. I only have about half of them on my SD drive.

When I select "high detail" instaid(?) of "highest detail" then it works as it should.
But in three days my subscription ends, so I hope that the problem is solved by then.

@ APMCS1 All the images that you have downloaded are on your PC.
In Windows XP thy are in..
    C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\GARMIN\BaseCamp\JnxFiles

The file names looks like "dt46shfneyfhndidfghedkld78374.jnx"
and should be visible in basecamp all the time.

I saw you already have got your files back.

Since not everyone has this problem, what type of Garmin gps do you use?
    I use a GPSmap 78s.

Thinking, maybe with a new subscription the problem would be solved, I renewed my subscription a few minutes ago. (my subscription ended yesterday)

Pitty, still can only download in high detail, when downloading in highest detail I get standard detail.

So now I have to find "second level of tech support"
