What information does Garmin collect?

No, we don't upload any of your user data (route, tracks, comments, names, etc).

It has always been our intention through the design of this feature to not collect any personally identifiable information. We have no plans to collect personally identifiable information in the future.

Examples of what we do collect:

• Computer configuration information
  
• Which Garmin applications that you use
  
• What features in those applications you use (for example, how often do people use "View in Google Earth"?)
  
• What map products you have installed
  
• What device models you use
  
• What types of information you send to your devices
  
• The counts of items on your device (for example, number of Garmin Custom Maps)
  
• The counts of user data items (for example, number of tracks or lists)
  

We intend to use this to identify areas of the application that need additional improvement. A reminder again that this is required only for the beta. You'll get to decide again for the 3.2 release if you want to participate.

Thank you for the quick clarification. I wouldn't have expected a candid reply from developers from Apple or Google if I asked the same from them :-)

I appreciate the reply as well. I am familiar with the privacy policy at the link posted above, but there are a few caveats that I find "interesting" in paragraph 3d.

I can certainly understand the need to cooperate with law enforcement, but the following appears to give Garmin carte blanche to do whatever they want with your PII: (e) to protect our operations or those of any of our affiliates and subsidiaries; (f) to protect the rights, privacy, safety or property of Garmin, its affiliates and subsidiaries, you, or others

Frankly I wish we had a privacy policy that was a little more restrictive that we could utilize, just to avoid some of these types of concerns. But it is the privacy policy that we have, and is better than no policy at all.

So is this info still gleamed from our systems even if we reply "No" to sharing analytical data ?

Or is this info gathered regardless of our response ?

If the user chooses 'No', none of this data is collected.
