This confused me a bit for a few minutes until I discovered what was happening. I installed the beta, enjoyed the gorgeousness that is the new layout, played around with it, quit it and then went to the start menu and clicked on BaseCamp to run it again. The layout had reverted to the old version! wtf :-)
Well, turns out it was user error- I did'nt notice that the beta does not overwrite or upgrade the previous version, but it lives side by side. So there are now two entries in the start menu, one for BaseCamp and the other for BaseCamp Beta.
