Update caused Basecamp not to open

Autoupdate caused me to get this error when trying to open basecamp:

BaseCamp.exe application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

How do I fix this and NOT lose my hiking history. And on that note.... how do I back up my hiking history so that another autoupdate does not destroy all my history?

Please help!

I run in Windows.

That error just means that your installation failed. This could happen due to any number of reasons related to how Windows works.

Luckily, BaseCamp has been designed with all this in consideration. Your data remains safe. They even save off backup copies of your data just in case! As soon as you reinstall BaseCamp, they will all be there. Download the latest version from the website.

Besides that, BaseCamp offers you a manual function to backup all data in one separate file. You can find this function in the File menu. By default It creates a file called BaseCamp.Backup in a location of your choice.

If anything goes wrong (e.g. you accidently delete some of your tracks or your data becomes corrupted in any way) you can retrieve them from the backup file with the Restore function in the File menu.
