See SD card maps on from Edge 705?

Downloaded and installed Basecamp. Plugged in 705. Progress bar runs then goes away and I see listed:

Library
My Collection

Devices
Edge705...(J: )
All data
AMR Standard Autoroute bmap, NR

Removable Media (K: )
All data

So I tried clicking, double clicking, right clicking on these and haven't yet figured out how to see the SD card map in Basecamp. It should be listed under Removable Media (K: ) , no?

What do I need to do?

Are you saying you've put a Map on SD card ( drive K:) ?

what map is it? How did that map get there? I would've expected that map to be displayed by BaseCamp. Could be because this is an unsupported map or there is something wrong w it
  • You might know that you can buy Garmin maps in a number of ways; CD, download, or on micro SD cards. I bought Garmin City Navigator SD card maps (North America, and Europe). The SD card is installed in an Edge 705 which sees the map and uses it. In Basecamp, the Edge is mapped as drive J: and the SD card in the Edge is mapped as drive K:

The map resides on the SD card but doesn't show up in the library listing on Basecamp.

The reason I asked how you got the maps on the SD card is because there are a number of ways of putting maps on SD cards - for example, through MapInstall.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you seem to be saying that you bought two SD card maps- City Nav Europe and City Nav NA. Neither of these show up in BaseCamp although they work on the Edge.

My first thought would have been that it is something odd with the particular version of the map you have; but since two maps seems to be failing for you, there has to be more going on.

    Yes. That is correct.

Basecamp 3.1.3 and Windows 7 on the computer.

When you connect the SD card, do you see a green or red progress bar right under Removable Media (K) that indicates that BaseCamp is trying to read the map? You can hover over this progress bar to get more information. Also if it turns red for you, let me know what that message says.

One long-shot to solve your problem might be related to whether you are running BaseCamp from a location that has a basemap. The info when you hover your mouse over the progress bar will tell us that.
  • With Basecamp running, I connect the 705 (with SD card in it) to the computer. The Edge shows up as drive J: and I get a green progress bar under the for the 705, which of course has base map. The bar cranks for awhile and then goes away.

The SD card gets listed below that as drive K: and no progress bar shows up for it.

I can right click on the Edge and "copy user info" to the SD card. It does indeed move to the SD card. But I can't see the map on the SD card in Basecamp. If I use Windows explorer to look at the SD card, the map is there, and of course the Edge accesses it just fine in normal use.
  • I don't mean to hijack your thread but I have a similar problem. I have a Garmin Oregon 450 with a 4GB SD card. I keep maps on the card. I have a homemade map that I installed on my Oregon through Basecamp. It works fine both in Basecamp and in my Oregon. If I delete it from Basecamp then I can no longer view the map in Basecamp even if it still exists on my Oregon which is connected to my PC. Is this the way things are supposed to work? I thought Basecamp would display maps that are only installed on my Oregon.

The City Navigator map on the SD card should indeed show up in BaseCamp. Can you tell me what specific versions of the City Nav maps you are using?

Also, can you give me the path and file names of the IMG files?
  • Map versions as displayed by the Edge 705:

    CN North America NT 2011.10
    CN Europe NT 2011.10

Path H:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img (drive varies depending on what's plugged in)

The file GMAPSUPP.UNL is also in that directory

I get the same results on my home computer with Windows 7 and my work computer with XP Professional.

When I insert the card into the card reader on my computer, I sometimes get a warning:

    >>>Do you want to scan and fix Removable Disk (H: )?

There might be a problem with some of the files on this device or disc. This can happen if you remove the device or disc before all files have been written to it.<<<

With the either card inserted into the computer's reader, I see in Basecamp:

    Library
    My Collection

    Devices
    Removable Media (H: )
    All data

There is no progress bar and I do not see anything indicating a map.

I got a copy of what should be the same IMG file that you have, put it on a blank SD card at <drive>:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img, and it works fine in BaseCamp.

At this point I don't have the tools that I need to assist any further. I need to refer you to customer support here:
