Waypoints losing uniqueness

I have a GPSMAP 62S

One thing I cannot work out is why the active route will only display certain text.

I plan my routes by making a track in Memory Map, saving it as a GPX file and then importing it into Basecamp.
Once in Basecamp I convert the track to a route.

The route properties then show the auto generated waypoints as route1, route2, route3 etc depending on whatever I called the original track.

The problem is once I send the route to the handheld, all it will display in active route is:-

route
route
route

So I now have a long string of waypoints all exactly the same, which is worse than useles
It seems to delete the number from the end for some reason.

Any ideas please.

One workaround is to open the GPX file in Notepad and search and replace the string "route" with an empty string. This will convert your intermediate route waypoints from route1, route2, route3 to 1,2,3.

This is probably not a good solution if you do this regularly. But then, if you are doing this regularly, I'm kind of surprised you go to all these lengths to create a route. I create routes directly in BaseCamp. You create it in a different tool as a track, export, import, convert track to route... is it because of some specific map you want to use with Memory Map?

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

I use Memory Map mainly because I have all of the UK at 1:25000 scale and I find it easier and more detailed than Basecamp to create my tracks on it. ( I am talking about off road walking tracks & routes here by the way)

Having said that, last night I tried an alternative of creating a "track" in MM and importing the GPX file into basecamp, this now has WP001, WP002 etc in a list when active route is displayed on the 62S, so is a better solution.

Its strange that Basecamp cannot create a standard route from a track and come up with unique waypoint numbering though.
I created a "filtered route" from my MM track and that does give unique points, but at the expense of losing a lot of directional detail contained in the original track.

I also export the actual MM map image. and make it into a custom map for the 62S so everything displays correctly at 1:25000

    Phil,
If you already have a custom map with the resolution you like, I would investigate just using BaseCamp -for managing both the custom map and creating routes.

Also, BaseCamp isn't creating non-standard routes. When u create some data in one tool, use BaseCamp as intermediary and view the results on the device, those names could be created by any of the pieces in between. Would've been another thing if u convert tracks to route in BaseCamp and get different results each time
