I just got a Garmin Edge 800 with City Navigator maps on mircroSD card. I plug the 800 into the USB and click on the City Nav Maps on basecamp but I can't not draw a waypoint or route bc the makes those buttons inactive gray. I click on AMR Standard Autoroute Basebamp, NR and then it does allow me to plot waypoints and start a route. What gives here..need help.
Sounds suspicious. BaseCamp does not restrict waypoint/route creation based on the map selected. It does restrict those tools based on whether you are trying to create the new data on your computer or on your Edge 800.
The Edge 800 does not allow any client software to create or modify data directly on the device. All it lets you do is send or receive data to/from the device. The outdoor devices like the Oregon allow client software to interact directly with the data on the device, i.e. create/modify data on the device.
On the top left of BaseCamp, if you have 'My Collection' selected, you will be allowed to create wapoints/routes/tracks as you wish. If you have the 'Edge 800' selected there, then these tools will be disabled.
I'm guessing this is what is happening for you. If it is, just select something other than your Ege 800 when you want to use the tools. Once you've created waypoints/routes, just drag and drop them onto the Edge 800.
