Is it possible to backup my Windoze Basecamp data and restore it on my Macbook Pro? Or is there another way to move this data over or do I need to start over again?
Please don't forget that the GPX format only contains waypoints, routes and tracks. So, if you have BirdsEye, Geotagged Photos, Custom Maps etc or if you have created lists in BaseCamp, these won't carry over.
If you want to backup/restore all that, one technique, which I haven't tested out myself, is to do a manual backup/restore.
What BaseCamp does when you do File->Backup is to create a zip file of all your data. So you can theoretically unzip the .backup file and put the files in the correct location on the Mac and everything should work. To do this, create a backup file, rename it to a .zip file, unzip it, then find the location on the Mac where BaseCamp stores these files and perform a manual restore.
Currently this isn't possible. The information presented in this thread is correct... the backup is just a ZIP file and you could manually put all the files in the correct places. However some of the files reference each other via file paths, and the paths in these files wouldn't be correct.
We are looking into ways to provide this functionality.
To move the Lists just export them and then import them on the other machine.
You have to be missing something- none of the export formats in BaseCamp support lists. Go ahead, export your data (File->Export. Then select gdb or gpx), import it into a computer that doesn't have the same lists and verify for yourself. The lists don't carry over.
