Viewing downloaded maps without attaching GPS unit

I'm new to Basecamp so forgive me if the answer is obvious.

I have downloaded Topo Canada East to a new GPSMAP 62s and am wondering if there is a way for Basecamp to view this map without connecting the GPS to the computer. Having paid for it it seems silly to be required to plug the GPS in each time I would like to pull up the map. Is there a way to place it on the hardrive aswell so that this is not longer required?

I think you can copy the contents of the 62s to a USB flash drive, and Basecamp will treat it just the same as the actual unit.

Copy the files named GMAPSUPP in a folder named GARMIN on a flash drive. Voila.

Use ImDisk to create virtual removable drive on your HD.

FWIW, from the Basecamp download page, this is one of the change notes for the 3.0.3 release:

Added ability for BaseCamp to attempt reading all Garmin map images (.img files), regardless of name, from removable media.

ADDITIONAL:

When I downloaded city navigator maps and updates for my nuvi gps, I was given the option to download to my hard drive as well as the device. On my hard drive they were copied to c:\ProgramData/GARMIN/Maps.

To check this out, I also just now downloaded and installed the Basecamp software. Basecamp is finding and allowing me the selection for both of my nuvi city navigator map files, as well as Global map and the original PC Basemap.

(Training Center also started offering me the city navigator selections as soon as I had downloaded them to my hard drive.)

So you don't have to worry about maps being on removable drives. Just copy your *.img files to your hard drive and you should be good to go. The software will find them.
