Custom Waypoint Symbols

I don`t care what anyone says,There is no way for the same custom waypoint symbols to show up in both a Oregon 450 and Basecamp.I named, renamed, sized, resized. And come to the conclusion that Custom waypoint symbols are a waste of time. So,why bother to include it on the Oregon 450?My GPS software and basecamp are all up to date.

On my Mapsource,Ver. 6.16.3 ,I have the same option and it does enlarge the waypoint symbols on Basecamp. As far as Pixel size,I haven`t a clue.I happy that the symbols I`m using are working.

All good things come to an end

Even though I have got the custom Waypoint Symbols to show up in Basecamp and Mapsource and on my Oregon 450,Everytime I connect my GPS to the computer and bring up Basecamp to look over my waypoints,to see the custom symbols and make changes. When I am done and I disconnect from the computer,Basecamp changes all of my waypoints that I had set with custom symbols,Back to a default symbol on my GPS.So even though they are showing up on all of the softwares. They just don`t work together.Which when all is said and done, what`s the point in having custom waypoint symbols if Basecamp and Mapsource doesn`t recognize the same symbols?I wouldn`t bother with custom symbols if my Oregon had the same default symbols as Basecamp and Mapsource. But it doesn`t.Which is really stupid on Garmins part.:(

I just created a new waypoint in my GPSmap 76CSx and assigned a custom waypoint symbol to it.

MapSource 6.16.3 ==> manually uploaded waypoint & custom symbol shows ok
Basecamp 3.1.2 ==> automatically showed waypoint & custom symbol shows ok

That said Basecamp automatically shows data in attached device(s) (unlike MapSource) but once you disconnect a device its data will disappear!!! If you want to save data on the PC you have to copy it to the Basecamp "Library".

    Did you do that?

Sounds to me like you have waypoint(s) of the same name, but different symbol, in the "Library" so when you disconnect your Oregon you see the saved version rather than the ones in your GPS.

It`s on the Gps that is showing the default symbols.Basecamp will still show the custom symbols that I assigned it.If I want to see them on the GPS,I have to reassign them manually. How to save them to the Oregon after I disconnect from basecamp,I haven`t a clue.Everything is named the same.

    You have 3 options.

    1) Change the waypoint symbols in your Oregon using it's menu's etc.

    2) Edit, when the Oregon is powered up and connected, the waypoint details from within Basecamp (the Device ones NOT the ones in the "Library".

    3) Edit the waypoint symbols in the "Library" then drag'n'drop them into the Oregon "device".

With respect this is all straightforward stuff. It is very difficult (for me anyway) to explain every little step in writing.

I guess I`m missing something here. But I used the drag and drop when I loaded them into the Oregon.

The way I did this ,I connected my Oregon to the computer, went to> my computer, highlighted drive;K brought up the custom symbols folder in Garmin,The I open the Custom waypoint symbols from my documents then used the drag and drop from one folder to the other. So everything should be the same.Same symbol, same name.

I think STUARTMW gave up on me...

Sometimes its better to give someone a map and let them find their own way ;-)
