Basecamp Database Import

My OS drive died last week. Thankfully, I back up all my data to a separate hard drive. So, no big deal, I reinstall my OS, load up Basecamp 3.1.2, tell Basecamp to import a database file, and point the import screen to \AppDataRoaming_Garmin\Basecamp\Database\3.0. No joy... "error, unsupported format".

Ok, let me try the 3.1 directory database... same error response.

At this point I'm a little upset after realizing that all my gps data (waypoints, tracks, etc) has been lost and I can't recover.

Any suggestions?

System:
Windows 7, 64 bit.

What happens if you simply put the file in the folder on the new OS drive where Basecamp expects to find it? Will it simply find it and open it like usual?

Well, now I feel stupid. I gave that a try, copied all the database files to appdata\roaming\... etc. And it worked.

I thought I had tried it before, but guess I was wrong. I'm glad you decided to try it again with your question.

You're welcome. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in trouble shooting that we skip the "obvious" stuff. Like, "Is it plugged in?" ;)

FYI Basecamp stores its stuff in the

%APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\3.1\AllData.gdb

file where %APPDATA% is the users "application data" folder (whose location depends on the OS and user).

GDB files are opened/saved by MapSource so there's no secret about the database format.
