I just purchased a Oregon 450, a City Navigator map and an access to Bird's Eye. For the use of the latter I needed to download and install BaseCamp, what I did. The City Navigator map is installed on my Oregon. When starting up BaseCamp (with Oregon plugged in) I get following warning: "No map products detected. Please install a map product to continue." and the program closes again. I read that BaseCamp should normally read from my GPS-device. What do I have to do?
That message indicates that you have an incomplete install. BaseCamp installation comes with a world map that is installed at the same location as BaseCamp. I would suggest reinstalling the latest version from the Garmin website.
