Tips and tricks to bypass the frustrating download limit of jnx files - birdseye

Hi,

I've subscribed to birdseye and since that I realize how it can be frustrating to use this functionnality... Yes the concept is very good but why so many limitations?

- the download limit is so low that we have to create a lot of download jobs to cover the wanted area, even in normal (high) detail level. It's worst if we want a very high detail level.
- There is no automation at all to define the download jobs. We have to select a small area and repeat this operation again and again....

I can understand that Garmin has to fix some limits but actually it's almost unusable... :(

So is there some tips and tricks available to bypass these limits? Is there some APIs/macros/scriptings available?

I ask the question to end users but also to the developers of birdseye : did you ever used birdseye for other thing than just for testing? If yes, I'm sure that you agree that it's frustrating and not very interesting to use it. Do you plan to add some utility to improve the process of downloads?

I'm struggling with this currently too. It does ruin the functionality of the program to not be able to download whole areas in high resolution.

The whole point of getting the Birdseye subscription was to load entire counties and national forests onto the GPS for widespread field use. Apparently, that was never an intended function, and it would take me days to load a few GB of data onto the Oregon.

Developers, have you looked at this yet?

As you know, BaseCamp is just the conduit in this case- the delivery mechanism for maps from various providers. You must be talking about the Satellite Imagery product in this case- I would be very surprised if the map provider for that data is willing to sell maps for whole countries for just $29.

I personally, can live with paying a smaller amount for getting smaller coverage. For example, I use it to download the area around a hike or a geocache. I'm very happy with that experience.

It might help if you explain why you want to have maps for the whole country-is it just a question of convenience? do you actually use coverage for the whole country in some way? If so, would you be willing to pay more than us for that feature?

Since I filled my 16GB card with BirdsEye some time ago, I have not downloaded anything with the new limits in place. Of course, I'd be in favor of larger download limits, but considering the very low price, this isn't a big deal for me.

Even if I don't download anything else, I feel like I got my $30 worth. When has Garmin ever sold 16GB of map data for that low a price?

I can't really comment on the size of the download limit. I can tell you that they are sent down from the server, so that if they are modified you won't need an updated version of BaseCamp.

Yes, I do need entire counties. I have various field sites and I can't really spend a week downloading individual areas for each one. I'm not looking for the whole country, but it would be nice to just get the NW portion of my state. This was supposed to be a tool to help me save time navigating in the field, not spend more time in front of the computer.

That said, it will probably be easier to create custom maps with the naip imagery. Besides, it appears to be the same images, I was just hoping that Birdeye would streamline it for me.
