    GPS Babel Worked for me

Good point - update the KML import or drop it.

New users like myself did not know that a KML file fromGoogle Earth was not in the Garmin custom maps format.

Good news though the GPS Bable program converted my KML (from google Earth) to gpx which imported into basecamp and into my Garmin Gpsmap62s.

    Happy Camper now !!

    Thanks for the tip

Ahh... this is frustrating --- I fell into the import KML trap by believing that it would actually import a KML file exported by Google Maps. How silly... We are up to 3.2.2 and its still there.

I sure would like to see a proper KML import and conversion to GPX function in BaseCamp.

[Yes, I do know about gpsbabel :) It seems to strip out the time & date data]

I agree that being able to have a proper KML import would be a good thing.

It's on our list, but I cannot make promises when it will make it into a release.

Wow, somehow I missed this thread in the beginning, but it perfectly explains what I have seen/done....

import gives an error about overlay, so use gpsbabel to convert the kml/kmz to something BC can really import.

And glad to see it has been identified as an issue with intention to fix!!!!

    Falagar,

While we wait upon the modest possibility that BaseCamp might someday have a true KML/KMZ import feature, is someone at least working on changing that error message to tell users that the function only works with custom maps?

I realize a feature change takes time and has to move up the priority list. I have no problem with that. But there seems no excuse to not at least fix that erroneous and misleading error message in any interim patch release. A couple minutes to code a few more words into the error message text and it's done. That would save users a lot of grief in the meantime.

I agree that the error message should be changed.

However, we hope to have KML/KMZ support working in 3.3, so currently there are no plans to adjust the error message.
