deleting waypoints

i'm using BaseCamp 3.1.2. i've importing all my tracks to Google Earth, and made corrections, moved points, corrected typos on waypoint names ;)... i've used GPSBabel to convert the GE KML file to a GDB file, and import it back to BaseCamp.

i'd like to delete the waypoints off my Garmin Astro 220, and send this new waypoint file from BaseCamp to my unit. obviously, i'd like to use BaseCamp to delete the incorrect waypoints off my Astro unit, but can't figure out how to do that.

any ideas?

Well, here is a wild guess based on what I have to do to edit waypoints on my 705.

Inside the 705 there is a GPX folder with another folder inside named "current" that contains a file named "current.gpx". That gpx file has all my custom waypoints in it. I can open that file in MapSource and look at all the waypoints and delete or add whatever I want and change symbols etc and then "Save as gpx" back to the "current" folder in the 705 and over write the file that's there. Works great.

So look for a gpx file in your gps and open it to see if it contains a bunch of waypoints.

thanks Don for taking the time to reply. unfortunately, when i plug my Astro into the computer, it doesn't recognize it as a disk drive. i'm not using an micro-SD in my unit, so i'm guessing that's why...

i'll keep trying. maybe it's something i can do in MapSource, and i'll try that temporarily.

    thanks again!
  • Unfortunately there is no way to delete waypoints on your Astro from BaseCamp. You will have to delete all the waypoints using the Astro. Only the user data sync devices such as the Dakota's and Oregon x50s allow BaseCamp to delete data.

thanks for your reply! i would assume the same is true for mapsource? i deleted all the waypoints late last night (all 180 of them ) by completely clearing all user data from the astro; a hard reset i guess? that took the unit back to all defaults.

i'm still having trouble transferring all my data back to the Astro, because now it's truncating my tracks (although it didn't do that when i transferred the original tracks a couple of days ago).

is BaseCamp not stable? working differently each time you use it?

    Yes

I strongly suspect it is the device that is truncating your tracks. Most devices will only accept 500 trackpoints in a transferred track. You can filter your tracks down to 500 trackpoints in BaseCamp and then they won't get truncated by the device.

thanks again! you've been most helpful!

actually, most of my routes were less than 500 points. i had to reduce them to less than 300 - but it worked.

i'm still learning BaseCamp, and it seems it can be a bit quirky.

    thanks again!
  • I'm glad that helped. As for BaseCamp being quirkly, we are always open to hearing about specific usability issues. We'd like for the application to behave as intuitively as possible.
