basecamp will not 'see' .img files in the maps directory

Have new dakota 20. Have basecamp 3.0.6. Having lots of trouble loading maps into basecamp from maps folders. I can see preloaded maps on my dakota. I cannot find the folder in the dropdown in basecamp, I cannot find the maps when I try mapinstall. they are .img files. I have changed the name to gmapsupp on one of them but no help. A few days ago I loaded one for north carolina. Same problem. after a couple of days, it saw the maps, randomly...i never told it too because basecamp apparently doesnt have that option. Then I figured that it may be working correctly, so I tried to load maps for tennessee. It has been 3 days now and basecamp hasnt recognized the folder. The folders are subfolders in the 'maps' directory.

Can someone help. I am seriously considering a return if i am going to constantly have to deal with basecamp like this.
  • It is working now???

Ok. I came back home last night and all the maps were on basecamp. I have done no updates at all. I have placed more .img files and, bam, they showed up. hmmm. #1. I am happy. #2. I still dont have a clue what was wrong or if it will happen again.

    Any ideas, programmers?

Glad to hear that it now works for you.

Since you were specific about the device and the version of BaseCamp, we can narrow down possible causes. It would have helped further if you were a little more specific with the description.

I'm assuming you are talking about the maps folder on the Dakota.

If you are talking about using MapInstall to send maps to the Dakota, these maps won't show up in BaseCamp. If you are installing maps you bought to the device, those are expected to show up in BaseCamp.

As you figured out, you don't need to tell BaseCamp to load particular maps- it will load all the valid maps it finds. If it doesn't load one of your maps from the device for some reason, one option is to see what happens when BaseCamp is reading the device. If you hover your mouse over the map, BaseCamp will show you a tooltip with the status and/or error.

If you don't even see BaseCamp starting to read the map, that means that either BaseCamp did not find the map in the locations it looked for, or it is a type of map that BaseCamp doesn't support.

Also, we appreciate that you took the time to came back to post the updated status on the issue :)
