BaseCamp track color not transferred

After owning two 60csx's I recently bought an Oregon, waiting until I
thought the major bugs had been worked out of the Oregon and Base
Camp. Now using Base Camp to send my tracks to the Oregon, I find
that no matter what color I make the track in Base Camp that color is
not transfered! The transferred track color on the Oregon is always
cyan, requiring me to go through a tedious multi-touch process of
re-coloring each track via the Oregon touchscreen.

This is incredible to me, and it is difficult to believe that every
Oregon owner is having to re-color their transferred tracks. What is
the point of changing the color in BaseCamp when it is not going to
get transferred to the unit?? I am now thinking I should return my
Oregon and go back to my much more convenient-to-use 60csx -- for
which the track color in BaseCamp/MapSource is indeed the track color
in the GPS! -- but decided to post here first because perhaps I am not
missing something somewhere, even though Garmin support tells me that
yes indeed, I am required to re-color each track manually on the
Oregon. [This is not the only "useability" issue driving that decision
- I've found other track/waypoint treatment incongruities which make
using the Oregon more problematic thatn the 60csx.] I am using the
latest Oregon firmware and BaseCamp version.

Hi, I can't help with BC xfers, but i will tell you, using the very latest software upgrade (3.80) for Oregon x50, I can NOT change the color of my tracks WHEN NAVIGATING! This is also confirmed by Garmin CS. The track color can only be changed when using TrackBac, when navigating.

I use my O450 on a bike, and it is almost impossible to see the track with the light color of Violet. I wanted black---but no.

Maybe this isn't important to you--if not--sorry for the wasted bandwidth :)

Can confirm what Garmin support told you. You have to manually change the color for each track. And you also have to manually set each track to be displayed on the map. I share your frustration.
  • Oh well...

I thought to be alone to complain about this issue.
I sent several notifications to Garmin's customer support (and software team) about this (among other issues).

I can't understand why the 60csx' firmware was so well conceived while the Oregon's - instead - suffers an incredible lack of features.

Where is gone the know-how they acquired in years of software development?

I add always my "+1" vote when I read posts like this for I hope that if we are several that complain about an issue perhaps they will make up their mind and implement the feature.

    Andrew.

Thanks for your replies. After digesting this, I have finally decided to return my Oregon - I can see that using it will be a pain and a continual irritation and would rather return to using my 60cxs. Don't know who will take the $ hit on my return, but I know it won't be me (I hope it is Garmin, not REI). I've already taken too large a hit in terms of my wasted time. Am very disappointed in Garmin. They are apparently satisfied to produce a half-assed product, since this product has been around for a long time.
