Lost Symbols after Waypoint is transfered.

HI,

I searched around the forum to find a solution to my problem without to much success. I apologize if this question has already been asked before.

I have a few custom symbols that I use in Basecamp and on my Oregon 550. The symbols on my computer and Oregon are exactly the same and on thier own work well. However, when I transfer a waypoint from Basecamp to my Oregon, the symbol is lost and replaced with a blue flag when viewed on the Oregon. The same is true when a waypoint is transfered from the Oregon to my computer.

Would anyone know how I could fix the problem and get all my symbols to appear correctly after wayoints are transfered between Basecamp and my Oregon.

Basecamp: 3.0.6
Oregon 550 Firmware: 3.74

Thanks a lot and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks for the help and if there is any more info I can provide please tell me and I'll get you whatever I can.

If it helps I did notice a few little things.
First the even default symbol libraries within Basecamp and on my Oregon are slightly different. I don't have them in front of me at the moment to give better examples, but some of the symbols like the triangles that are available in Basecamp are not on the Oregon. The result being, if you select a red triangle as a waypoint marker and then transfer it to the Oregon the symbol is replaced with a Blue flag on the Oregon. Shouldn't the symbol libraries in Basecamp and on the Oregon be exactly the same?

I named all of my custom symbols with the same name on both the Oregon and in Basecamp. For example symbol "001" on the Oregon is the same as the "001" symbol as in Basecamp. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but Basecamp reads to a folder called "Custom Waypoint symbols" while the Oregon reads to a folder called "CustomSymbols"

    Again, thanks for the help.

    Cheers.

    Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay. The naming on the device is slightly different than what is used in BaseCamp. In BaseCamp the images are numbered 000, 001, etc. On the device they instead use Custom 0, Custom 1, etc. In addition the images must be 24-bit bitmaps in order to be used on the device. BaseCamp accepts a greater variety of image styles for custom images.

If there are a large number of waypoints with the same classification you'd like to change you may want to consider overriding one of the existing waypoint images on the device.

A very nice guide for both of these options can be found at http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Custom+Symbols

    Zhenkel,

That was one of the sites I referred to when I first made my custom icons. All of my icons are 24-bit, 24x24 px and named 001, 002. And they All seem to work fine.

Jut just to confirm that I understand your instructions correctly. If I name the icons on my Oregon Custom 0, Custom 1 exc. and leave the name of the Icons in basecamp as is (001, 002 exc. ) Then I should be able to Transfer waypoints between my computer and my Oregon and the symbol will remain preserved?

    Again, Thanks for the help.

    Cheers.

Yup that should work out just fine. 001 on the desktop and Custom 1 on the device.

I just want to jump in here and say that the inconsistency of symbols between basecamp, mapsource, and my eTrex has got to be one of the most frustrating things I encounter using these three things together. Sure, I understand different devices have different symbols, but if nothing else.... if there were a nice/integrated way to install a symbol present in a software (basecamp, mapsource) as a custom on your device, or vice versa (device embedded to software custom), it would be widely welcomed.
