Basecamp 3.06 Update Erases EVERYTHING!!

I just ran the update and it erased every track, waypoint, and route that I had. I went to "restore" and the backup was gone too. WTF? There was no warning that this may happen with the update. This didn't happen with previous updates. Everything that I spent months working on is gone. How the hell could this happen??!?!

Has anyone else run the update? Did this happen to you?

The BaseCamp database is stored in a sub folder of appdata. That folder is one that is restored with the windows restore feature. Maybe you can get some of your data back.

I had my data wiped out by using it. Now I export everything to a gpx file.

There is also a database backup function in BaseCamp that probably works fine.

    Good luck

No problem here, all waypoints and lists intact.

I'm very sorry that this happened to you. Was there any error message or anything else that indicated a problem after the install?

A couple of options off the top of my head to try restoring your data:
    • If you used the application's backup option you should be able to restore directly from that
    • If you browse to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database (Win7/Vista) or C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\GARMIN\BaseCamp\Database (WinXP) you should have a 3.0 folder with your data files. There should be .bak versions. First save these to a a safe place then try copying them back and renaming them to remove the .bak extension. Alternatively if you have something in the Database folder directly these are from a 2.x version of BaseCamp and if you remove the 3.0 folder it will re-migrate your data from the last time you ran BC 2.x
    • As another user mentioned you may be able to get these files back via Windows own backup mechanism.

If you need any additional assistance trying to get your data recovered please let me know.
