BaseCamp route to Edge course?

Gents,

In the Garmin anouncement of the the Edge 800 is a very interesting sentence:

The latest version of Garmin’s free BaseCamp software (www.garmin.com/basecamp) gives users an easy tool to survey the terrain and plan routes. BaseCamp lets users plan and preview routes – along with viewing elevation changes – and then send those routes to Edge 800, Edge 705 and Edge 605 as courses to follow.

When is this implemented? Beacuse it's not there, at least not in the current WIndows version of BaseCamp.

Futher i see that BaseCamp imports History from the Edge as tracks, but when sending the tracks to the Edge they appear as routes and not as history :( (or courses)

(i use an Edge 605)

WinGDB3 (www.sackman.info) can also be used to create courses directly in the Edge from tracks or routes (e.g. from gdb files).

OK here's what I was able to find out. I did the testing with one of our test Edge 605 units in the office.

    1. Create the route in BaseCamp and transfer it to the device.
    2. When the device powers on the gpx file will be converted for use on the Edge.
    3. To navigate along the route do the following from the menu
    - Where To?
    - Saved Rides
    - Select the Route name you sent to the device
    - Choose Navigate

    Hope that helps
  • Hello,

Yes it helps, but it's still a (routable) Route and not a Course :) like the Garmin marketing story tells us

Route is a route and Course is a converted history which is enriched with average speed and hight information (how high..) in the format .CRS or .TCX. It's not in a GPX file.

(i know WinGDB very well mr Edward Sackman ;) See also www.gpsies.com/convert.do for conversions of GPS to CRS of TCX)

But till now i understand that BaseCamp (Windows or Mac) do not have the functionality to export an (routed) route as Course to the Edge.
