Custom maps lose rotational adjustment when importing to BaseCamp.

I created some custom maps for a 62st, one of which required rotation. Everything works fine in Google Earth, but after exporting the kmz file and importing it into Basecamp, the rotation is removed -- the map is re-oriented to be level.

The Garmin instructions say that you can rotate the image in order to georeference it, so how do you get the rotation to "stick" when you import it into Basecamp?

Thanks,

Larry

The map will display correctly on your GPS, but this is a known bug with Basecamp.

I rotate the image with an image editing software such as photoshop before importing it into GE to get it to work correctly with BaseCamp

The main problem with this is that it's not possible to tell exactly how much to rotate the specific maps I'm using. They do show a north direction, but that doesn't seem to be exact.

That aside, doesn't this result in maps that have large blank portions in the corners? In other words, when you rotate in Photoshop, doesn't the actual canvas stay vertically oriented?

I'm hoping that Garmin fixes this shortly. On that note, can anyone from Garmin give us any information on how long it might be before another version comes out?

    Thanks,

You have the rotation parameter from GE when you rotated the image, so you use that as the setting in Photoshop.

To avoid blank corners, just use a larger image and then crop it down removing the black areas.

Remember, it's a work around. It's not going to be the solution to every situation.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately, the particular maps I'm using are already sized to a specific area of trails, and have no extra area around the edges. This means that I can't crop the map at all -- I have to use it in its entirety, which would result in large blank corners if I rotated it in Photoshop.

    Thanks again for the ideas.
