Unable to print shading from Topo 2008

Hi, new to the forum.

I just downloaded Basecamp after years of using Mapsource. When printing maps from Topo U.S. 2008, Basecamp doesn't print any shading at all. The same map printed in Mapsource shows shading, but of course doesn't print grid lines, declination, scale, or any of the other necessary info. In the Basecamp print preview screen, it shows the shading as it should appear, but the actual paper printout shows no shading whatsoever. I have the latest printer driver, and since Mapsource prints the shading, it doesn't seem to be a printer issue. I see no options for including shading in the page setup options.

I've searched for others having the same problem and found no other posts. I'd appreciate any input or suggestions.

I ran this past our resident printing guru and found out in BaseCamp we ask the printer if it supports DEM shading. A majority of the printers seem to not support that feature. When we forcibly turned it on for all users we saw some severe errors in testing where half a printout would be missing.

An option we may consider is having a setting by which you could turn on the shading and see if it works for your specific printer without the issues.

Thanks Zhenkel. I also tried printing to a PDF file and got the same result, no shading. So it appears the shading information isn't being sent to whatever printer is used. It's odd that Mapsource is able to print shading from the same maps without problems. I would think that BaseCamp could do it as well, but maybe there is a different method used for sending the print information.

I hope a solution can be found soon. This is a major shortcoming of Basecamp for me. And since Mapsource doesn’t print grid lines, scale, and declination, I guess I’ll have to look elsewhere for mapping software.
