Joining tracks - which trackpoints will join

Hello,

I am working on a way to cross the alps. To get this way I cut different tracks and join parts of them. Usually I want to join the end of track one with the start of track two; before joining the end of track one is nearby the start of track two. The first two joinings worked as expected. The surprise came later, then the start of track six joined with the end of track seven what meant a join over 60 kilometres. I wanted and expected, that the end of track six joins with the start of track seven, this two trackpoints had a distance of approximately ten meters. In BaseCamp I found no way to join like I wanted, at least I had to do the join with another tool.

In MapSource I can choose the trackpoints I want to join. Do I have this option in BaseCamp also? If I can choose trackpoints to join also in BaseCamp - how can I do this?

Best regards

Hi, Yes you can join tracks in BC. You can manually add tracks, Insert or Erase TrackPoints, move TrackPoints in existing tracks, Divide a Track. It just takes a little practice.

Make sure both tracks going the same direction, as noted with the red arrows. If they are going opposite directions, In the left pane, right click on the track you want to change, and choose Advanced/Invert Selected Track to reverse the direction of the selected track.

To Join 2 tracks, highlight the 2 tracks in the left pane--the first one is the start, and the next one the end. Right click the 2 and choose Advanced/Join the Selected Tracks. A pop-up window, for you to check or change, will display the order for joining them.

Joining will just connect the 2 tracks with a straight line, so if you have a curve in between those 2 endpoints, it will not show the curve--you will have to Insert a TrackPoint.

I hope i answered your question--if not repost,

  • Hi Ron,

thank you very much - it answered my question. The order is to change in the pop-up window, that it was I was looking for.
