Images Smaller Than Stated

Hey all...

I was just wondering... I am currently a new user to BirdsEye. I have downloaded several sections of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) that I plan to hike in September.

When I go to download the "highest" quality image from BE, it states that the download is around 15MB (for day 1 of the hike), yet when all is said and done the compiled image is less than 4MB. Is this normal? That and it seems by looking on my Oregon 400t that the images aren't so 'high quality' as it states, as I have to zoom out quite a bit for things to look fairly normal.

Just wondering if this is the norm or if I am missing anything.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Depending on the location the highest detail level may not be available. In these cases the estimate is incorrect because the calculation was done assuming all levels are available.

If you give me a lat/lon for the area you're downloading I can see if that is the case.

Off topic, but if you're hiking the PCT, you should seriously check out the track and waypoint data that Halfmile created for us. Google "halfmile" and it should be the first link.

I value that information way more than the quality of the maps on my Oregon 550. I do have one problem with it though. The mileage waypoints show up on my 550, but I don't see the other waypoints for water resources and camp sites. That'd be a big deal if I wasn't already carrying printed copies of Halfmile's maps.
