Wrong forum?

It seems that your first question is mostly about your handheld device, not about BaseCamp. Most of us have different GPS units to you. For example I have a Dakota 20 and an eTrex Legend. I can offer you no advice about how to use a Nuvi.

For your second question, you can see the track in BaseCamp when you connect your Nuvi (on the left under devices)? You need to select the track, the from the menu
File -> Export -> Export Selection

I suggest that you repost your other question in the appropriate hardware forum.

I dont see any place for hand helds or for auto type GPS like my Nuvi 500

Since I was going to use basecamp (software) to work with the data being sent to the product I thought here would be a good place to start...;)

Yes I can see my Nuvi in basecamp I just didnt know where to send the data, send to Garmin" or do I send it to "Removable Media? Well I sent it to both of them now I cant figure out where to go to see the data once the Nuvi 500 is running.

I also have a Etrex Legend H I took the same file and sent it to my etrex Legend using basecamp then I turned off my GPS went outside restarted it when it found the satellites and switched to the map page I could see the track on the map if I wanted to I could have went and followed the map, it couldnt be easier I didnt even need to read the book to figure it out its like its almost automatic, it worked as I expected it to work.

So I do the same on the Nuvi 500 and I never see the map on the screen it just boots up locks onto the satellites but dont show the track on the map.

Anybody?

Lots of GPS units that are primarily intended for in-car use are very POI-centric and route-centric rather than track-centric. My TomTom is like that. These devices optimise in-car functionality at the expense of general GPS capabilities that your eTrex and my Dakota have. In other words the device (and the manual) were not well designed for this kind of purpose.

So what does the manual say? On Page 16 of the manual it talks about being able to load maps, routes and waypoints, but not tracks. On Page 13 of the manual it talks about TracBack and implies that you can save tracks to your "Favourites". So as an experiment why don't you try generating a track and then saving it (using the instructions on P13). Then connect to your computer and explore your device until you find the saved track. Then at least you will know where tracks have to be, what they are called etc.

Then you can try adding another track to your device at the same location (folder) and same type.

Don't forget I am just another user like you. I downloaded the manual and had a look to give you some self-help approaches since it appears as if you don't want to use the official Garmin support channel.

If you can't make progress with this then you can send me your Nuvi and I will figure it out :-)

I've owned two Nuvis--the newer, a 755. Neither supports tracks and I'd be surprised to learn if other Nuvi models did--for the reasons Patrick cites above. These units are primarily for navigating roads. Pick a point (address, point of interest, etc), and a Nuvi will suggest turn-by-turn directions to that point. On the 755 and some other models, you can also upload a route--which is just a set of waypoints--and the GPS will suggest turrn-by-turn directions to each waypoint in succession.

In contrast to a route, a track is generally used off-road. You or someone else records the track in the field or creates it on a computer with a program like BaseCamp. When the track is uploaded to a hand-held unit (i.e. a Dakota, Oregon, etrex), you can follow it, much as you might follow a trail on the map. But there are no turn-by-turn directions: you do the navigating. The path you take is based on what you see on the GPS screen, and (let's not forget), in the real world.

Here is the full list, I bought this for primary use off road.. its list goes on to include with boating and geocaching, you can install and use topographic maps cant imagine not being able to upload a trail so I could follow it whilst off road..

The address is forums.garmin.com its for garmin products? The site is run and supported by garmin employees?

Looks like a place to go to get assistance with a garmin product to me if its not they might want to put something up at the very top of the home page stating what this sites purpose is.

The site looks like a great start to a full product support site.
