Consistent crashes with 3.0.5 and 3D Map View

I am running XP SP3, a nVidia 8600GTS with the latest drivers.
I can't run 3D map view. Opening the view causes a crash of the application.

I have had to turn off OpenGL in my driver config to get BaseCamp to run but of course I do not get 3D map then. It used to work fine with the previous version of BaseCamp.

Can you post the specific error that comes up? I'm curious to know if it is something caught by our application or if it escapes and Windows shuts BaseCamp down.

OK, I turned graphics accelleration back on in the driver. Now when I launch BaseCamp I get a partially drawn BaseCamp screen and the following popup (image of the popup follows). The full text reads:

I'll take a look when I get in the office on Monday. That's not an error I remember seeing before so I'll have to do some digging.

    Thanks for posting the details.

Sorry about that. Another member of the team was going to look into this. I'll check with him today and either he or I will post an update.

I deleted the registry entries and BaseCamp started OK (with OpenGL turned off in the driver).

I turned on OpenGL and started BaseCamp, got the usual error crash (I sent the error report).

I turned down graphics acceleration one "click" and now BaseCamp starts OK and it appears as if all my map products are there, but if I use any of the maps from the drop down list (except the base global map) I get an error. These are TrekMap Regionale Toscana and Topo Australia. If I access either of them from the drop down list it says there is an error in that map and deletes it from the drop down list.

For example I reinstalled TrekMap Regionale Toscana from the DVD. I can open BaseCamp OK, but if I select this map from the drop down list I get a popup saying "An error occurred when attempting to use the TrekMap Regionale Toscana Map Product." After that the map does not appear in the drop down list until I exit BaseCamp and run it again. The maps are working fine in MapSource.

So I have gone from bad to worse. Now I can't even access my maps!
  • All working now thanks

It was the deleting of the folder in my profile that did the trick.
I didn't have to reinstall my map products.

Glad that we could help get it back up and running.

I know its a long shot but do you by chance still have those folders you deleted in your recycle bin? I'd like to take a look and see if we could figure out which setting it was that got the app so fouled up.
  • Here it is

I have attached the user.config file (renamed to .txt).

Maybe you should change the forum settings so that .config is an allowed file type
