When I download birdseye maps onto my Oregon 550T, does it make a difference on whether it is done in high or highest on the Oregon?Or is the high or highest only seen on the Basecamp screen? And my Oregon has no chip in it. I was downloading arials in highest format. Now I get a message that the info did not transfer to the Oregon. Did I max out the Oregon? Can I buy chips and load areas of arials on them?What if I want to download the North American maps on the Oregon, is there room to do that with my ariels? Also, I bought the Birdseye for one year. At the end of the year do the maps I made get erased from Basecamp and my Oregon? Sorry if I asked dumb questions, I'm a beginner. Thanks.
Depends on how far you zoom in on the Oregon. You can zoom in close enough that it does make a big difference. Download two small BirdsEye section next to each other with the different resolutions and look at it for yourself.

What was the specific message that you saw? It certainly is possible that the internal memory is full. If you check from in Windows Explorer the Oregon appears just as another drive and should show you if it is full.

Loading BirdsEye imagery to SD cards in the Oregon is fully supported. It will appear just as a new drive letter within BaseCamp but it unlocks the imagery as if it was in the Oregon's built-in memory.

Maps can be copied to an SD card in the Oregon as well. Just add them to a \Garmin folder and they'll be available for use with BaseCamp as well as on the Oregon when you're on out the trail.

No. The downloaded imagery will remain on your computer and/or Oregon and SD cards.
I guess the Oregon is maxed out. It didn't give me a lot of overall area in highest resolution. I may have to do it all over in high resolution to save space and get more arials on there.
The same memory on the device is used for BirdsEye imagery, maps, pictures and everything else. From the product page on our website it looks like the 550t is built with 850 MB of internal storage, some of which is used up right from the factory with the map that has been loaded. Once the device is full you won't be able to load your City Navigator maps. If they are already on you can continue to use them.
A quick check from an online vendor shows micro SD cards that work in the Oregon range in price from 10 to 50 dollars. I know in the office here we've used 4GB SDHC cards without any issues. I'm unsure if the 8GB cards are also supported. I'd shoot a quick e-mail to product support, or possibly another user on the boards could let us know what size cards they've used successfully in their Oregon.
I have a FULL 16GB card in my Oregon 400t. If you use the highest resolution option, your imagery will consume a lot of space. My 16GB card contains about 7,000 square miles of coverage at highest resolution. Regarding your error messages, are you aware that there is a limit to how much BirdsEye imagery you can download in one session? This might be the error you are talking about. After finishing a download, you can then select another area and download it, so this does not limit the total area that can be downloaded.
Also realize that BaseCamp gets very slow and unresponsive if you have a lot of BirdsEye imagery in it. After transferring the files to my Oregon, I delete them from BaseCamp. I then back up all the .jnx files from the BirdsEye folder on my GPS to a folder on my computer.
