I can't download the latest release.
The link on the first post of this thread sends me to Updates & Downloads, but when I click on the Download Button, after a second or 2, it goes to:
    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=128 instead of: http://www8.garmin.com/software/BaseCamp_304.exe

It was this way last night.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't work for me---i just retried it.

Yes i successfully downloaded and installed 3.0.4 on my desktop by using the Check for Updates button in BC, after i posted the above earlier. I also copied the 75mb file to another location from the Local Settings/Temp so i can also install 3.0.4 on my laptop. After the install, the program deletes the downloaded file.

This is very strange. I'm using FireFox 3.6.3 and i have tried MSIE 8--both with the same results. I can see on the status bar it tries to go to the destination, and about 3/4 done on the slider bar at the bottom of FF, it changes to the Garmin.Buy site. Any "bad" link sends it to the "buy" site. So somehow FF & IE sends a bad character or more and the Garmin server thinks it is incorrect. I download lots of data and updates, etc and i've never had this kind of problem. I did not have a problem with 3.0,2, nor with 3.0.3.

This also happens using my Windows 7 laptop--the same way. I'm on a pretty slow cell phone connection with a d/l speed of about 57kb/sec---pretty slow. I only want to download this once! We have no DSL in the boonies of N ID.

  • Not working

I just installed the latest version 3.0.4 and I'm not able to get basecamp to run. It starts to open then just freezes. Totally unusable (again)

UPDATE: I saved all of my images to another folder then I uninstalled BC. I reinstalled the latest version from your download link. (3.0.4). I'm able to get BC to open up, now that there are no images to load). But now that I've plugged my Oregon 550 in, BC is just trying to read the data from the SD card. It's been reading the card for a long time, and the progress bar has barely moved.

3.0.4 seems to be working fine for me. I downloaded one 75MB birdseye file last night without problem, and have just started another download. The first time, it took a long time to start BaseCamp. Just now, it opened quickly. I used the Help > Check for Updates method to upgrade.

COG, thanks again for trying. I just tried again--no joy. I clicked on Support at the top of the page, then Software/Mapping Programs, and every one of the programs cause the download Popup to appear, ex Basecamp. There is something unique about the link i think---maybe the underscore.

I used to have have problems with the minus sign on a yahoo group which used it in front of the Longitude. according to "my" computer, it was not a "-" but something twice as long. nobody complained about it, so when i copied the lat/long i would not copy the minus sign and i'd just use my own. Maybe that's the case here, however all the other links have an underscore too. go figure. This ends my posts--i got my downloaded file.

This is pretty much my experience as well......

I don't plug my oregon into the computer anymore, I use a card in a USB reader. On a card create a \Garmin directory and copy the file GarminDevice.xml from your Oregon. Now create a BirdsEye folder inside the \Garmin folder.

BaseCamp will see this exactly the same as your Oregon and display the unit ID. I use a 4GB card and delete the .jnx files after I have 4 or 5. I copy everything to a folder on my computer, then copy the files to a 16GB card that I use in my Oregon. I never use that card along with BaseCamp - if I do, I get the problem you describe. It tries forever to read many GB of imagery and never seems to finish.

I think the secret to keeping BaseCamp happy is to limit the amount of downloaded BirdsEye data that it can see. Just move it all to a card and only use that card in the GPS.

I hope they will make the program work with large amounts of imagery in the future, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere near that point yet.

I am seeing a new problem in 3.0.4. When I zoom out to the 5 mile range, the program freezes and stops responding. This happens when there is BirdsEye imagery in the section I'm looking at.

I have tried this both with the basic map only and also with City Navigator.

I've had crashing issues with zooming in and out which just started within the last few days. I also am having just random crashes where if Basecamp is just left out long enough it just crashes.

Up until this started a few days ago, I was actually pleasantly surprised at how smooth downloading data was going. I'm hoping its simply an issue of too much data being in Basecamp and I'm hoping to move the files around and out of Basecamp and see if that helps.
