I have updated to version 3.40 on my Oregon 550, and version 3.0.2 Basecamp on the computer. Street names are working again in version 3.40! The current versions seem to be working well on my systems.

Yesterday I made a seven mile kayak trip around Smith Lake in Portland, Or. I have several custom maps of the Columbia River which also cover the lake area. While the number of tiles in the custom maps exceeds the 100 total limit somewhat, they still display without error on both the Oregon 550 and Basecamp. I am not experiencing significant slowness in Basecamp on this Win7 machine.

The tracks and waypoints work fine with the custom maps; both on the Oregon 550 and when the data is viewed in Basecamp.

I also imported the GPSr data into Google Earth, where the tracks displayed just fine. My waypoints did not display in Google Earth, however, which may be due to some setting issue I have that needs to be changed. They were showing up in the sidebar list of myplaces, though.

So, all told, thanks for the updates, Garmin!

  • Hi,

I was wondering if you have had tried generating routes from Mapsource, (I have City Navigator 2010.4 NT) and then sending them to your Oregon now that you have the new firmware 3.4? Like you, my street names are now visable but I get a "route recalculation error" when attempting to use a route.

Have you ever received this error on your Oregon 550?

    thanks

How can you exceed the 100 tile custom map limit? It's fixed at 100!

The actual number oftiles over my five installed custom maps = 100, but then there is also a "doc.kml" file with each, so the total number of files = 105. The total file size for all five of the custom maps = 60.8 MB. The maps display correctly on the Oregon 550 and also in Basecamp. In Google Earth, the custom maps display, and my tracks show up ok, but I still haven't been able to get the waypoints from the Oregon unit to show up in Google Earth. I don't know why that is, since they do show up on the left side bar after the import.

The limit is 100 JPGs across all KMZ. The number of KMZ files (containing doc.kml) is not important.
