Basecamp Windows: delete old map breaks everything

Running Basecamp 4.7.5 Windows (in Parallels on a Mac but that shouldn't matter.) I am trying to delete some old maps. In Windows Control Panel I go to Uninstall Programs, pick one of the old ones, and click uninstall. It does its thing. Then Basecamp is gone. The program shortcut doesn't work. When I search for Basecamp in Explorer, it shows "Basecamp 2D", and that is worthless too. I have to restore my Windows image from the last good one, and then Basecamp works again. This uninstall process used to work, since forever. But now it is broken. I can't uninstall maps, and every time a new map comes out that's another 5GB of disk space that I have to give up.

  • Well this is confusing as you've posted in the Windows section even though you're running it via Parallels on a Mac, which may indeed be the issue, as I can delete maps via uninstall on Windows without BaseCamp being deleted. You may get better help by asking in the BaseCamp Mac forum. However why restore your Windows image? Download BaseCamp direct from Garmin, that may fix the issue you're having.

  • I'm running the Windows control panel to uninstall the Windows maps from Basecamp for Windows. There's nothing Mac about it. Restoring the Windows image is the same as restoring from a backup of Windows.

I tried reinstalling Basecamp for Windows. The install program did not look normal, and it did not fix Basecamp. Only the restore did.

What actually has worked has been deleting the entire map folder using Windows Explorer:
    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\City_Navigator_North_America_nnnnn
without running the Windows uninstall program. Basecamp for Windows still works and it sees the most recent map just fine.

I like Basecamp for Windows better than Basecamp for Mac. That's why I run it.

  • I'm running the Windows control panel to uninstall the Windows maps from Basecamp for Windows.

This sentence confuses me.  I don't know what Parallels does but in Windows, maps are installed on Windows as their own program.  There is no relation or reference to Basecamp.  I still have three installed as per this screenshot of my Control Panel  > Program and Features list (thank you to this thread for making me notice I have some cleanup to do).
