It's almost unusable. I'm running Windows 7 64bit with an nVidia GTX 275 video card, 6 GB of Corsair Dominator RAM, 300GB 10,000RPM WD VelociRaptor HD and an Intel I7 920 processor. My system should handle this with no problem, however, the basecamp software is almost unusable while panning, zooming, or just navigating on the map. I get lots of freezes (it will say "NOT RESPONDING") for up to 2 minutes and then start working again. I am able to download birdseye maps and I'm also able to load them to my garmin Oregon 550 with no problem, but I DO get an error that says unable to connect to my SD card on the oregon, (even though it connects) I'm using the latest release of Basecamp that I downloaded 2 days ago. Also, I have installed the same software onto my secondary desktop and have the exact same issues. I am going to try to install it onto my 3rd desktop which is running XP 32bit SP3. Will see if it makes any difference. Garmin .... can you please look into this? I am going to Colorado in a few months to hike Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. I'll be heartbroken if I can't get this software to function properly before my trip. Thanks
Wow. Really? A PC issue? Intel i7 with 16GB of ram on a DDR5 Video card and a 1TB SSD? I think not. I am a Network Admin... Don't really think it is a PC issue. That is a really generic response. Just to test your theory though, I tried from two separate production PC's from our Data Center....still the same result.
Look, I am just trying to get a little help here. If there is somewhere else I should go, please simply advise me. Thanks again...
Well not sure what else to suggest. I have numerous GPS, 3 nuvis and 2 handhelds, and Basecamp works perfectly with them all. Maybe one of the developers will be along shortly and can help further.
You'll need to be a bit patient, the BC developers aren't here 24/7. As I've indicated, Basecamp does work ... clearly for some reason your system has a problem somewhere and they may be able to help.
I am replying almost a year after the last post to say that Basecamp is still very slow and almost useless. I am running an Intel I7-3930k Processor, GeForce GTX 970 video card, all with maximum ram. With my Garmin Monterra attached by USB and map CN North American NT 2014.40. It is so slow I hate it. If i move the map I can wait several minutes for it to redraw. And no other programs are running.
Well there is something wrong as I've used Basecamp for years and it takes no more than seconds to redraw a map depending on the detail level selected. You say you're reading the maps off your device? Have you tried installing them onto your PC, as that would be far quicker.
