Ah, OK... didn't think of that. It says TOPO U.S. 2008 v2.01. Looking more carefully, it isn't just road names that are missing. There are no labels for anything... not even elevations for the contour lines.
Many people have reported the same problem on different forums. I sent an e-mail to tech support and suspect you may have quite a few on Monday morning from other users. Just to be clear though.... the map displays correctly in Basecamp, but not on the GPS itself.
Ah OK. If the issues are with display on the units there isn't very much I can do other than just pass along what you're experiencing. The developers that work on the GPS software are a completely different group from the one that I'm in.
I'll send your comments along to the device team and include a link to this post in case other users can chime in but that unfortunately the best I can do.
I prefer BaseCamp to MapSource because i can edit & create Tracks with BC, but can't with MS. I also like the Play feature in BC, i don't think MS has that yet--i haven't used MS lately except to install my new update to City Navigator 2011 from 2010 on my Oreegon 450. I couldn't find how to do it in BC.
I've never had BC 3.0.5 crash on either my desktop XP SP3, or my laptop W7 Home.
I will say however, imho, W7 is a pos (piece of shi-). I think most of the problems users have running programs in W7---it's W7.

I have mapsource also. Seems like a good map program but there is not a lot of detail. Did you notice that it will not download saved tracks except current?

BC can manage the waypoints/routes/tracks directly on your device (IF your device supports it), delete, rename, etc. I've an eTrex VistaHCx so I cannot do that, but I've grown to prefer BC over MS:
BC also has some kind of 3d/birdseye thing. My device not support, so I cannot say how that works. Every time I launch it, it complains openGL.
With MS, you have to manage different .gdb files (which can be beneficial), but with BC, you can keep all of your data in the program, and segregate things by "lists"... not quite as flexible as 'tagging', but a step in the right direction.
BC has some rudimentary integration with google earth which is also a step in the right direction.
BC seems to have slightly better "understanding" of POIs than MS, but not much - you still need that clumsy POILoader for any sense of management.
MS has some features and virtues BC doesnt and vice versa. Neither is complete. For me I end up doing a lot of stuff in Google Earth and then hauling files thru converters and stuff between it and either (or both) MS and BC.
The three (BC, MS, and Google Earth) are like a dumptruck, sportbike and passenger car. I'll leave it to you to assign which to which, but the point is, some tools are better at a given task than others, but none are perfect for all of them.
The new version of BaseCamp lets you view the pre-installed topo map from the Oregon 400t on your computer. This is a very nice upgrade which addresses a long-standing complaint about the Oregon's with pre-installed maps.
I have a 400C using basecamp 3.0.5 on windows XP. Will I be able to see my marine detail on a future version of BaseCamp? That would be awesome!
