Running Basecamp (and MapSource) on an 8GB Win7 64bit system with i7core processor.NVidia Gforce GTS 240 1024 MB video card.

Viewing, no 3d data, but lots of 2D topos. Basecamp crashes about every 15 to 20 minutes, usually on a zoom out. MapSource behavior is much worse.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My Basecamp is 2.0.9 downloaded from Garmin.

lol yep same system ...and software ver.... im not sure on your problem it works great on mine try completely uninstalling and reinstalling ... make sure to install it in the default folder program files (x86) that's probabaly the biggest mistake people with the windows 7 64 bit make..... is they change the default folder .... all 32 bit programs have to go in the program files (x86) folder are they don't work right ... and if all else fails run the compatibility wizard .. and to your other question now that the new basecamp supports all the maps you can just use it if you prefer ... i like having both

Ran the compatibility wizard and it said run in WinXP Service Pack 2. But after that it gave me an "incompatible application" message.

shoot seldom .... after my last reply i got on basecamp and tried everything to get it to freeze.. with both views turned on 2d & 3d and the 3d at full tilt.. i zoomed in out from 300 miles to 500 ft as fast as i could ..panned back and forth... jumped from way point to way point from track to track as fast as i could click .. and couldn't even get a hestitation .... i would try uninstalling completely running a good registery cleaner .. make sure you get everything off your comp and then try your reinstall ..make sure to restart before you reinstall ... sorry couldn't be much help ... but to let you know that it should work good.. we have the same systems

Sorry that I don't have any further suggestions beyond the ones that Utahwadeo put forward but wanted to drop in a note that the dev team is tracking an issue with frequent crashes in Windows 7.

Please insert the standard "we're aware of the issue and working on a fix".

I'll share additional details as soon as I'm able.

Thanks, for the response. Can you recommend a registry cleaner?

i use system mechanic ... it has worked great ... great feature's .. and hasn't caused any registry problems ... even comes with a cool window gadget ... just spend a little money and get a top name brand or you might end up with different issue .... and if you have never ran a registry cleaner... then that could be some of your problem ... mine cleans out a average of 60 to 70 registry errors a week ..

and make sure what ever you get is windows 7 64bit certified

Just ran ccleaner, and improved crash from about 63% of 8GB memory to 68% of 8GB memory. Still crashed. Utahwadeo, what kind of data are you using? Mine's a 5 degree square 40' contour topo.

i have two garmin topo us 24k mountain central, and southwest,,and a few 3rd party 24 k .... but after talking to you and reading the other posts, i got back on and i was able to get it to crash after a few min. of mass zooming in and out ,, and i had forgot i upgraded to 12 g of ddr3 ram ... so i think that was the difference ... cause when it crashed... my memory was almost full ... so the only thing i can suggest ,untill garmin gets their bugs fixed,,is there is a few programs that have a memory optimizers , that well clean out unneeded stored memory ... i have mine set now to optimize if memory gets below 50% ... and that seems to be working good.... http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem ( cleanmem) is a good one for windows 7 64 bit you can chose what programs you want it to keep control of memory ,, even system cache

hope that helps ,, but be assured as much heat garmin is getting now they'll get this resolved soon
