Is there a suggested setting for collecting track data in terms of distance or time? Seems like using the time option might be better.

I was playing with the distance setting since we wanted better detail. Once loaded into the GIS software, the results were great. We did a small area and set it to 3 seconds.

There is not a setting I could recommend as each persons need and unit are different.

For some devices, recording every 3 seconds could fill up the tracklog very quickly. Some devices, like a 60CSx can be set up to also record the tracklog on the data card, avoiding the 10,000 track point limit (for archiving purposes).

Depending on your device try and weigh detail against the amount of time you can record. For instance if you are limited to 10,000 points, at 3 seconds you would get about 8.4 hours of recording. Changing it to 4 seconds would get you 11.2 hours.
