Geotagging with older Garmin Units

We teach GPS to educators in IL. Working on a workshop for teachers to geotag. All the software out there (free) requires two steps each with its own software.

Installed BaseCamp and like it so far. Did it when it first came out and it just killed my computer. This version is a lot faster.

I noticed BaseCamp will only work with USB. Question - if you use a serial port unit with a usb connector will it work with BaseCamp?

BaseCamp only works with USB devices. Even if you are using an adapter cable it will not work.

Cannot you use Spanner to port? If not Spanner then GPSGate?

Otherwise you could offload the data with Mapsource, save, then open in Basecamp.... Yes, I dream of the day Garmin focuses on one application that does everything....
