Displaying 3D terrain message

I've just added information to https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=475 to highlight what's going on with the driver checks.

For your specific card have you tried the drivers available from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_mce.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.21&lang=English The Catalyst 9.11 drivers have been checked in our test lab and verified to be working correctly. If that is the same version as you are currently using please let me know as a different issue may be going on.

9.11 (and also 9.12) definitely does not work on Windows 7 x64 with my Radeon 3300 (amd 790gx integrated on Asrock AOD790GX mainboard with 128MB sideport and 256MB UMA memory.).

Message shown is:
The 3d display could not be initialized and will be disabled.
Please Update your video drivers

Could you please go to the Control Panel, open the system System window and choose the Device Manager option from the left. If you browse to Display adapters, choose your card, right click and select properties a new window should open up. From the driver tab check the value of the Driver Version field.

With the version of Catalyst 9.11 that we have installed here the reported version is 8.671.0.0. If you see something different please post here so I can follow up. Another thing could be that old drivers still exist on the system in some form and are being picked up by the check. I'll do some research to see if that could be the issue and post if I have more details.

As I already updated to 9.12 (but 9.11 did not work either) it is 8.681.0.0. Driver assembly date is 24.11.2009 according to the property tab.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any old driver leftovers.

Thanks Zach. I installed the Catalyst drivers as instructed by ATI and I no longer get the driver update message. The problem is resolved.

Sorry I didn't look close enough the first time but you've gotten the dreaded "The 3d display could not be initialized" which means that a unexpected error happened, not that we detected an older driver version.

I'm going to send you a PM with next steps to work on this since I'm hoping your case is unique.

BTW discovered using Win XP 32bit that If I open Basecamp with a map without DEM then for the "session" 3D view is also disabled.

Under Win 7 x64 this is not the problem, and no matter which map is selected on startup of Basecamp 3D view is disabled.

The Win32 behavior you describe sounds like its working just as intended. While you have a map selected without DEM data the 3d view is disabled.

If you later change to a map that does contain DEM data you can enable the 3D view or both the 2D & 3D views by going up to View->Map Views (the options are 2D, 3D, both).

We are looking at options to make it more obvious which views are available for a given map product in the future.

Also did you receive the PM with additional test instructions to look at your specific Win7-64 issues?

No If I later go to a map that has DEM I cannot activate it. Only if I start with a map that includes a DEM.
Will retry this, though I am pretty sure it only worked if started with a DEM map.

I already sent the output to the address you told me. Anyhow I'll attach the output here too.
I could not find anything obvious in the error output.
