Basecamp measurement tool?

I have a new GPS and installed Topo maps with Basecamp. I can't figure out the measurement tool. I click on start and finish and a line is drawn, but no measurement information appears. I expected to see balloons with distance measurements as I click and draw. Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug? I'm using Windows 7 and I should note that some kind of error occurred during the install but then I followed the menus and the install completed. I also tried re-downloading BC 2.08 from the web site. Can anyone please help? I'm a newbie, so I'm probably just doing something stupid.

Thanks for any assistance!

My measure does the same thing as Bostaurusmaps, I am using Basecamp 2.0.8 and Windows XP.

Sorry for the difficulties you are having with BaseCamp.

While using the measurement tool the total distance, enclosed area and heading are shown down in the status bar. I've attached an image showing what you should expect to see. Please don't hesitate to ask if the feature still isn't working as you expected. We will take a look at making this easier to use for a future version of BaseCamp.

My version does not have a status bar and I cannot find any information on the status bar in the help. How do I display the status bar?
  • I can't help myself.... I'm sorry. Is the Win version so different. Here's a screen shot of the Mac version. :D

@killtimer: At this time the PC version doesn't display the measurements on the map, only in the status bar. Making measurement tool more like the mac's is one of the options we would like to look at.

@alberta4me: Unfortunately we've seen issues where the layout of toolbars can be lost due to a corrupted settings file. If you navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\GARMIN_Corp and delete the directories inside of there the default window layout should return the next time you run BaseCamp. If the status bar still doesn't reappear please let me know.

ZHENKEL, I do not have the GARMIN_Corp file or folder as shown above. Should I reinstall basecamp from the CD?

Unfortunately the installer doesn't remove old versions of these settings so re-installing won't help.

Sorry I think I might have given you the wrong path for your version of Windows. Let's try this alternative that should work on any version to get to the folder.

    • Open up the start menu
    • Select Run
    • Enter "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\GARMIN_Corp" into the text box (please include the quotes)
    • Hit enter

If you're in the right spot there will be one or more folders that appear named BaseCamp.exe_Url_ followed by a long string of seemingly random characters. Go ahead and delete any of them that you find there.

    Thanks Zhenkel,

The measurement tool is working properly now
