I'm a long time Garmin user but have pretty much ignored Basecamp until purchasing an Oregon 550. After pulling my hair out for an hour trying to get waypoints via MapSource I finally stumbled upon this forum and discovered the new behavior of the 550x's. After playing with the software for awhile I have a questions and a couple of suggestions.
Question:
1) It seems I have to go into mass storage mode (MSM) to access waypoints, caches, etc. but I have to specifically NOT go into MSM if I want to access tracks. Is this normal?
Suggestions:
1) I don't use the mini-map so I had that lower window collapsed as much as possible. But when working with waypoints, caches, etc. the properties information is shown in tabs in that window. So to see those I would have to manually resize the lower window large again. It would be nice if the properties tabs could "pop" or "slide-up" when a point is selected and auto hide when dismissed by the user.
2) I have queries of caches that cover a x mile radius at different areas - these clumps of caches (and their labels) cover all map detail until zoomed way in (to about .3 mile). So:
a) Ideally it would be nice to be able to define a range of zoom levels were caches, etc. are visible.
b) if not (a) - or maybe in addition to (a) - it would be nice if the list of points on the left hand side was a tree control, grouped by type (waypoint, cache, etc.) Then there could be a checkbox for each type to show/hide all of the children items.
Thanks,
