My Oregon 550 device cannot be connected via USB.

Yes, my garmin oregon 550 device cannot connect via usb normally.

It is bricked as you know.

But it connects via usb like this. But it is of no use to me.

If I connect the usb cable while holding down the power button while starting the device, it reaches the folder after 30 seconds. But I cannot reach this folder that I reach from my gps device's own menu normally.

Now the incident happened like this. I was going to format the sd card for the map update. But I accidentally formatted the device with the rufus program. And the device did not recover.

I think I need to install it like the factory that produced the device installed it during the first installation. Can you please help?

Also, since I want to take photos, the device says there is no disk space."Not Enough Space for More Photos"
  • Your best bet is to download the Garmin Basecamp software and use their official firmware restoration tool. Make sure you get the exact firmware version for the Oregon 550 from Garmin's support site. The device-specific firmware should help reset everything.

  • Tell us where we can find that "official firmware restoration tool"...

(hint: there isn't such a thing)

  • Generally it is a bad idea to format SD cards, and doing that with a Garmin device even more so. Using Rufus for that is the superlative...
Rufus creates bootable partitions, the Oregon 550 cannot access those.

Start the Oregon holding down the power button, and use the default Windows tools to reformat it using FAT32. It might be necessary to remove the current partition first. When the Oregon will start up on itself after that, you're still missing essential files. Some can be restored with Garmin Express.

Actually there is nothing wrong with the firmware itself, that resides in a different part of the memory that cannot be accessed from outside. The memory you have formatted is used for things like maps, tracks, photos, language files and additional support files.

  • I tried Fat32 and Fat. I got the same result every time.

I wonder if I deleted something like the boot partition of the device using Rufus?

If I deleted it, what should the boot settings be? As another idea, if someone else has the same device, can they send me a copy and I can install it on my device?

By the way, can someone from Garmin send me the factory reset file for this device?

Like I said, it must not be bootable. A bootable partition contains extra stuff that your device cannot handle. Because of that it simply cannot access the memory.

Something like a "factory reset file" does not exist. Also, a factory reset would not help because it will not change the formatting of the memory.

  • then I have a brick now. I wish there was a possibility. I could make the device work.
