No Map detail in Basecamp

I had Suunto 9 Peak before and I was dissatisfied with the map and how to create a route. I switched to Garmin Epix Gen 2 and was amazed. It is impossible to create a route through the Basecamp Program because I do not have the detailed map. I have a drawing that I would like to edit, but it is not possible. As you can see in the attached image, there are no roads. I connected the watch to the computer and it seemed to be updating the maps, but then nothing.Pathetic. I thought it was simple to use, but Suunto was, and is much simpler, user-friendly, I think the little foray with the Garmin company will end here.

  • BaseCamp doesn't come with maps. If you want maps you either need to install them to your PC or it will read them from your device. Note the latter process can take a while and you need to let it finish. It will then only take a few seconds next time. Nothing wrong with BaseCamp but you need to understand how it works.

Note not all maps can be installed to your PC and as you don't say which map you want to use you may find the only option is for BaseCamp to either read the map from your device, or you can copy the map from your device to a removeable drive and use that with BaseCamp instead. I do that so that I don't have to connect my device everytime I want to do route planning etc.

  • This is what the map looks like after reading the maps from the watch. I waited for half an hour, it seemed like they were loaded. I try MapSource too, with the same result. This both programs are outdated. Last update to MapSource is in 2010, for basecamp it is even older. shame on garmin
