BaseCamp doesn't read maps loaded on an SD card
On your SD card create either a "Garmin" folder or a "Map" folder. Copy the map image the folder you created. The map image must have the extension img (ex gmapsupp.img). This needs to be the full image, not a subset that was created with MapInstall/MapSource. If you encounter issues try using the card outside of the unit or a different SD card.
In tests we discovered that most newer outdoor units (Oregon, Colorado) will read a file of any name with the img extension. Many automotive units we tested (nuvi) will only read a single gmapsupp.img or a set of files in increasing number (gmapsupp1, gmapsupp2, etc). In addition newer nuvi units support locating supplemental maps in a \Map directory. BaseCamp will attempt to read any img file on an SD card in these two folders so please follow the naming scheme and folder structure that works for your associated device.
3d View
There are a few different checks we run when starting up BaseCamp relating to the 3D view functionality. Depending on which message you see there are different options to prevent it from appearing again.
- In order to display 3D terrain, OpenGL 1.3 is required.
BaseCamp requires features only available in OpenGL 1.3+. Unfortunately, it's up to your video card manufacturer to provide this support and if the current version of the drivers is missing this support the 3D view cannot be enabled.
- In order to display 3D terrain a newer video card driver is required.
Specific versions of the ATI Radeon drivers caused an issue where the application would crash whenever the mouse was moved over the 3D view. To prevent these errors from occurring the 3D view is disabled and the message above is shown. Please send me a PM if you encounter issues trying to find newer drivers for your video card.
- The currently installed video card driver version could not be validated.
In the case where the ATI Radeon driver does not report a version in the format we expect this error message is displayed. If the mouse can be moved over the 3D view without the application crashing please feel free to check the box that says "In the future, do not show this message" and the prompt will not appear again.
- The 3d display could not be initialized and will be disabled.
An unknown error happened while trying to enable the 3D view. Any additional information you could provide would be appreciated.
If you are using a laptop with Intel graphics we've created instructions on how to upgrade your graphics drivers with those provided by Intel instead of your laptop manufacturer. Please see this thread.
Printing Issues
During the printing process most applications do not communicate directly with the printer but rather issue printing commands to a printer driver. This driver is then responsible for translating those general printing commands into instructions specific to the printer. Printing problems therefore can sometimes be caused by the printer driver and not by the application.
When experiencing strange printing behaviour you can try the following:
Get an updated printer driver. Printer drivers, like any other software, get updated from time to time, so go to your printer manufacturer's web site to ensure that you have the latest version of the print driver for your printer.
Use a different printer driver. HP, for example, have up to four different printer drivers for some of their printers (PCL5, PCL6, Post Script or Universal). Problems that occur in one may not necessarily occur in the others.
Check your printer manufacturer's web site for other driver possibilities.
