Route imported from google maps to Basecamp will not hold defined route, straight line from A to B only

Hi all,

I've seen this mentioned a lot on the forum however most threads are years old and any new posters are asked to start a new thread so here I am.

I have a trip planned for the end of this month so have been hammering away on google maps trying to sort out the most scenic route that I have time to do. I am heading from N.Ireland to County Kerry in Ireland, one of the most picturesque places on earth in my humble opinion. I can plan the route, convert it and import it into basecamp (Latest version) however everytime I try to convert it to a route I only get a straight line?

I have seen a few posts saying to try direct track instead of motorcycle, this seems to work on basecamp but will not load onto my device.

I have a few days to get this all sorted, any ideas or alternatives to basecamp that I could use?

So you're planning a route in google maps expecting BaseCamp to work with it? Afraid the answer is to plan it in BaseCamp using the map you have loaded on your device. Even then you need to be careful that your device, presumably a Zumo, doesn't recalculate it. You may find it better to ask here, which is a forum for motorcyclists who use Garmin devices www.zumouserforums.co.uk/

Planning anything on BaseCamp would have me pulling my hair out, that software is awful lol. Thanks for the link to the other forum though, I'll give that a go.

I've used it since it started and now with the updates over the years it easy to use.

I understand that it is possible to create a route in Google Maps and then convert it so something that a Garmin device can use but that effort has never seemed worth it to me. When I plan a route, I normally plan it in Google Maps first. I then duplicate it in Basecamp. I find it fascinating, and difficult to understand why some folks struggle so much with Basecamp. I spent some time with this tutorial, https://www.newenglandriders.org/learn-basecamp/, then refined my skills with advice from the forum previously mentioned. I found it pretty easy to learn. Admittedly, it is not intuitive. A tutorial and then some tips and tricks are needed.
