Calculating time between legs or waypoints

Basecamp 4.6.2

Windows 11

I create tracks in BC to be used as kayaking trips. I transfer them from BC to a Montana 610.  After the kayaking trip, I transfer the actual trip back to the PC. Each trip has hundreds of legs.

Is there a way in BC to determine the elapsed time between two selected legs? Each leg seems to have a time, but I can't see how to select two legs and see the time it took to paddle between them.

I also tried to create two waypoints on the completed trip after the fact to see if I could then see the actual paddling time between them. No joy there, either.

Thank you.

  • Within a single track file the selection of a consecutive sequence of points in the Track Properties window should show a summary with the elapsed/moving time and distance for that selection.  (use the shift key to select multiple points - either select first point and shift click on last point or select first point and shift + down arrow to select multiple points; selected points will be highlighted on the map).

If you have multiple tracks, I would add notes to each track - for example each track would contain the moving/elapsed time for that leg and all previous legs along with the mental addition of a running total time.

Alternatively, multiple tracks could be joined together, but to get the correct moving time it would probably require exporting the joined track as a gpx file then editing the position of the start point of a subsequent track to match the end point of the previous, then importing the edited track into BaseCamp.

  • Thank you very much for this. I was missing a couple of steps. I didn't know how to find the leg number for the location that I wanted to time to. In playing, I now see that I can click on the actual track and as long as I am on one of the leg division points, the properties window will scroll to that leg. Then I can follow your instructions to select all legs between that one and the starting leg.

    thanks again.
