I wanted to copy the list of maps displayed in Basecamp's Map Product Manager, but it seems that Basecamp doesn't provide any way to do that. You can't select more than one map in the list, and Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V doesn't work. I can't use a screen OCR program to capture the text because the Map Product Manager is not resizable, and the info in the window is too wide for the window. You have to use the scroll bar to see the rightmost info in the window.
There are non-OCR utilities to capture text from a window that doesn't support copy and paste - I tried a number of them but found only one that worked! I feel lucky that I found even one that worked.
The reason the other utilities didn't work is explained on the SysExporter webpage - "SysExporter can export data from most combo boxes, list boxes, tree-view, and list-view controls, but not from all of them. There are some applications that use these controls to display data, but the data itself is not actually stored in the control, but in another location in the computer's memory. In such cases, SysExporter won't be able to export the data."
The one utility I found that does the job is Textgrabber 1.0 by Eric VanHeest, a very old utility. Textgrabber 1.2 is on Softpedia, but it is missing the textgrab.dll file that it needs to work! Luckily I still had Textgrabber 1.0 which did have the textgrab.dll file. A nice feature is that will format tabular text in CSV format ready for pasting into a CSV file.
Has anybody found an easier way to copy the Map Product Manager table?
