Maps on SD Card don't show on GPS

Copied a gmapsupp.img to GPSMAP 65s. It works perfectly well.

Copied it to the SD card, folder Garmin ... it doesn't show on the list of available maps to Activate/Deactivate.

Open BaseCamp with GPS connected: the gmapsupp.img in card is detected and usable.

Used BaseCamp to install a map just to test ... it copies the img file to SD card folder Garmin (good I thought) ... but again the map doesn't show on GPS to be Activated/Deactivated. And curious enough, it doesn't show either on BaseCamp!!! Using install again and it says it's installed. Can delete, reinstall, whatever ... but doesn't show on BaseCamp, neither on GPS.

Any ideas how I can make GPSMAP 65s to use the SD card maps? What am I doing wrong?

Does sound like the SD card is too big or not formatted properly... Don't use SD cards larger than 32 GB. Cards up to 32 GB are formatted FAT32 by default, larger ones are ExFAT (not supported by the GPSMAP 65). Check if the card is formatted FAT32.

Strictly speaking BaseCamp cannot install maps, it uses MapInstall for that. Maps installed with MapInstall will not show in BaseCamp by default because it is not necessary (since the map is already available on your computer). That behaviour can be changed with JaVaWa Device Manager, it can make maps visible or invisible for BaseCamp.

Thanks a lot! You are right, card is exFAT formated (128GB).. And thanks also for the explanation on why the map is not sown on BaseCamp, sounds logical.

Be aware that SD cards larger than 32GB can be formatted as FAT32 but not by Windows formatting. Doing so requires a third party utility. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant (free version) to FAT32 format a128GB card which is now working fine in a zumo XT.

According to Garmin the zumo XT supports SD cards up to 256 GB. However the max. size for the GPSMAP 65 is 32 GB. I'm afraid the 128 GB card won't work, even if formatted properly...

So here is a question... Does the GPSMAP 65 look at formatted size or card capable size? I ask because I know that a 128GB capable card, when FAT32 formatted with Windows, will end up with a formatted size of 32 GB so I'm wondering if that would then work.

The formatted size of a 128 GB card should be 128 GB with FAT32 (using a proper formatting program), not 32 GB...

I used DiskGenius to format the card as soon as JavaWa posted his/her first answer. It works perfectly well.

So I can confirm GPSMAP 65s can deal with correctly FAT32 formated cards as big as 128GB.

A 128GB card formated as FAT32 looks (to Windows) as a 128GB card. And it works on GPSMAP 65s. Have not tried to put more than 32GB on it yet :)
